Disable Keyboard - how to disable the virtual keyboard when using a controller for 2023

After a couple of hours searching for help, I reached out to Steam.
Here is the guide they gave (I add one small step for clarification):

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to Steam Support.

To disable the on-screen keyboard, please do the following:

1. Open Steam
2. Select View -> Big Picture Mode
3. Select Menu on the bottom left (or press Esc / B button), then select Settings
4. Select Controller on the left, then at the bottom of this page select "Guide Button Chord
Layout"
5. On the new page, select "Edit Layout" and scroll down until you see the button with "Show
keyboard",
6. Click the entry [Added for clarification: click the button that says Show Keyboard] then select
"remove command" at the bottom of your window. Alternatively, you can select the settings
button and select "remove command".

Thank you, this solved a problem that i was having trouble diagnosing for months because I couldn't tell if the virtual keyboard was part of Genshin, Star Rail or my 8bitdo controller and it turned out it was none of those and it was Steam trying to be helpful making a virtual keyboard appear which also explains why it didn't happen consistently.

Now excuse me while I type keyword-soup to try and guide others who have had my problem onto this solution.



Keyboard appears while playing Genshin Impact with controller
Keyboard appears while playing Honkai Impact Star Rail with controller
Keyboard appears sometimes when using 8 bitdo ultimate wireless controller
Keyboard pops up when playing games on PC
Keyboard pops up when playing Xbox Gamepass PC
Virtual keyboard randomly appears while playing games PC controller
Controller sometimes making keyboard appear
Black virtual keyboard appearing when playing games controller
PC sometimes thinks controller is keyboard
Controller broken makes keyboard appear
Stop keyboard appearing when playing games PC

Where is "Show keyboard"? Can you provide screenshots please?

actually you have to go in DESKTOP LAYOUT, not GUIDE BUTTON CHORD LAYOUT

in DESKTOP LAYOUT choose EDIT, on the menu that appeared choose EDIT LAYOUT

select the option JOYSTICKS , find L CLICK, press the gear icon and select REMOVE COMMAND
