What are "guides" on peoples profiles?

im still new to steam , it looks like people just use them to post pictures??

People can use guides for posting unrelated pictures, but they're not supposed to do that. If they do that regardless, then that's what you see.

I think people like to do that, so they can add more pictures to their profiles.

Guides are supposed to be, well, guides. As in "they guide other players".

It is true that there's a ton of pseudo-guides used by edgelords (or generally people with an unhelpful sense of humor) for whatever random stuff. I report those.

They're supposed to be Guides, helpful instructions on how to do something or walkthroughs for games. The following link is the Community Guides main page.

People shouldn't just be posting pictures as guides. That's a d*ck move, it's not what the guides feature is for.

Guides are a showcase feature which can user can show off their guide on their profile. Showcases are available from level 10 onward and you can create a guide for any game.

They are a guide on a game they own and is posted in that game's Guides section but in order to post it there it gets automatically added to our profiles under guides.
