The next type of thingy would be some MMORPG. It could be pretty cool to start three characters and do quests together.
For example you could play World Of Warcraft and have one tank, one healer and one dps and could do any quest without thinking twice or just walk through the world.
If you think about MMPRPG and REALLY have a performance problem and don't mind a game where you don't get missions and goals and just run around following some pointer on the HUD but instead just are put into the world and have to decide what you want to do:
Ultima Online[uo.com] is still the best. I tried many MMORPGS but none has the features like UO. There are two clients, both should be good enough even for old laptops but one (with the 2D interface) should run on EVERYTHING. There is NO way the 2D client for UO is not running well and very fast on your laptop.
Here a list of other games which can be played together but are no-so-current:
Another idea would be one of the games like Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars or anything like that (Wargame 1-3, Company of Heroes 1-2, lots of others) where you can play together against the AI or against humans or just against each other.
