Content Filtering Issue

Hello,

During the Halloween sale I discovered Steam had been hiding a lot of M rated games from me due to its default settings; so I changed them thinking by doing so it wouldn’t hide *the games that contain mature content*, it wasn’t quite the case. Today I had enough after Steam recommended me to play “Hot milfs” because I played “Undertale” ???!! I know the recommendations often mess up but, I just wanted to ask around if there is a setting which would still showcase/recommend the games might contain mature themes but not as their main thing, basically, if that makes sense.

If you in your account settings' "Store Preferences" deselect only "Adult Only ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Content" (or if you like, that and "Frequent Nudity or ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Content") it seems you'd have basically what you ask for. I have it deselected and don't see and am not recommended all the pornographic crap.

Yes, although I'd also better like to self-manage, with that category not deselected it's become completely undoable; Steam has over the last few years become a repository of smut.

I thought i was consenting to see stuff like realistic depiction of blood, triggering themes, substance use or mention.. etc. But the algorithm decided to go with just ♥♥♥♥ mostly since.

I mostly keep my settings like yours as well; but during Halloween sale I realised half of the games were just hidden and among them were good games and probably got censored because of horror themes?? Idk. Its just disappointing how the algorithm still considers literal p*rn and M rated games as the same thing

I mean, its ok steam selling these kind of games; only if there were just a simple additional check in the settings: “Show me games with animated ♥♥♥♥ on thumbnail: yay or nay” lmao

One would hope and assume that a "Adult Only ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Content" filter would filter only that indeed but it's of course possible that I just missed it doing more. I'll in any case live with it; no way I'm going to be wading through the mountains of crap.

Got any examples of games you weren't seeing? The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ content filters are supposed to be based around how much focus is placed on that content, so it sounds odd they'd filter it for horror content.

It's possible they might use the user defined tags as part of the filtering, which given their un-reliabilty could throw it off. That certainly explains why Hot Milf was recommended as it shares four user defined tags with Undertale.

The store page for a game has a report button. Reports don't mean they have to take it down and you can pass on information and opinions there... such as listing the current tags the game has and which ones should be removed for being incorrect/inaccurate or something that isn't there but should be.
Unfortunately that means you'll have to spend some time looking at a game you don't like just so they can fix it to what it should have been so that you would never have had to see it.
