Steam frequently flashing orange/green in the taskbar

At some point Steam coded a kind of notification system that makes it flash different colours on the task bar, and it does this for a very low criteria of notification, e.g. daily required updates, or downloads, or so on.

I have searched deeply in the settings to try and figure out how to disable the ability for Steam to send notifications via flashing colours on the taskbar, but I cannot find the settings.

Can anyone tell me how to disable the ability for the steam icon to flash different colours on the taskbar?

There's no option to disable icon flash for all Steam notifications, but you can disable it for chat messages. Click the COG icon in the Friends Tab (Shift +Tab while in a title) and click Notifications. Then choose "Never" in "Flash Window When I Receive a Chat Message".

To disable all Windows icon flashes, you can right click your Taskbar > Taskbar Settings > and disable "Show badges on taskbar buttons". There's probably a third-party software that allows you to customize which programs are allowed to use the flash notification icons if that's what you're looking for.

Thank you for the reply. I would just note that the definition of 'badges' is the little annoying dot that may be yellow or red or etc., which is a separate form of notification from the flashing icon colours on the taskbar.

I have indeed disabled badges on the taskbar but that does not stop steam from flashing different colours, it does however prevent the little annoying dot from appearing if someone sends you a message etc.
