Mic Distortion ONLY in Steam
Currently I sound like Darth Vader whenever I try to use voice chat in game. I have been messing with the settings in steam and nothing has improved. I reinstalled steam and it still persists. This problem happens no where else but steam (even with all other applications closed). Any ideas?

Don't know if this is of any use as most people I post these to don't respond anything back, but.

What's the soundcard drivers you use? Have you gotten the Windows 10 -variation of them?

Does the issue persist if you use a USB mic instead of a regular AUX microphone?

There's a few anyhow, who are having the same issue:

Either way, might wanna check these too:

I'll try some of this, but I am using the mic on my laptop (since thats a more controled thing for testing this) and it has no issues in audacity or skype. Purely Steam. I'll be sure to post back for you if it works or not.

Thanks.

Its would work.

This works, but I think I am going to dig a bit to make sure its not a work around. No point in turning of an enhancement if I dont have to.

I am sorry that I started a new thread. I guess Google hadn't indexed all of the recent threads for when I searched.

Try going to your "Recording settings" on your computer, and disable sound muffling or any similar options. That used to be my problem.

In Windows 10 Recording settings open the mic properties and on the last tab pick Stereo, 16-bit, 41kHz (CD quality) as format.
