Windows 10 update/DirectX 12 kinda wrecked my game...
So I just downloaded the new Windows 10 update and ran TF2. Upon playing the game I noticed some missing textures and framerate issues. I hadn't had these problems on Windows 8.1 and I'm starting to suspect that it's a compatibility issue with DirectX 12. I even tried changing my -dxlevel to 120 (DirectX 12) but that didn't seem to help with the issue at all.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how I could fix this or if it's going to be solved in a future update.

P.S. I haven't tried any other games quite yet, but I'm sure that Gmod and others might have the same issue, because they run on Source (I've also heard of other people having issues with it), but I'm not entirely sure.

Tbh, I'm not really sure. I'm not really much of a tech expert and I have no idea of how to find out. All I know is that the game worked perfectly fine on Windows 8 (I was running DirectX 9, I'm fairly sure) and now that I updated to Windows 10, which comes with DirectX 12, my game no longer works.

Games don't have DX12 and you're not running DX12 at all dude. Only brand newest cards who have video cards that support dx11 only supports dx12 but you're not running DX12 anyhow because the game itself is running a older verison of DX.You need to find out what is your video card. Click System information on the search bar and find your information on Windows 10. Are you playing on a laptop or desktop? And what drivers are you using? Then when you go to system information check the hardware display and a video card name should pop up.

I'm playing on a laptop, and the only driver info I can give you is that I guess I'm using a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8E1. (If that means anything. Like I said, I'm no tech expert) My video card is a AMD Radeon HD 8330. Or at least this is the info I can get from it.

But if it isn't an issue with DirectX, then what is it? I mean, I didn't have any problems with my laptop before upgrading to Windows 10. While running Windows 8.1 my tf2 ran perfectly.

It's a driver issue most likely, go to the AMD site and look for new drivers or go on the forums and find the most stable release.

Thanks, I'll try that, see if it works and update on it later.

So... I thought it was working, it did show improvement, but after playing for a while I noticed that some textures are still missing. The framerate is improved though.

You've downloaded the windows10 card drivers..?

You've tried a repair installation on the game.. ?

Win 10 is still effed up and win 7 is still better..

side note i have not had a peripheral crash in 4 hrs since i trashed all win 10 .

I've tried everything I can at this point. I've searched for solutions all over the internet and tried everything, yet nothing seems to work. No matter what I've tried I still have texture bugs and a slight framerate issue. (Though not as bad as before I installed a new driver)

After hours of looking for issues I finally figured out what the problem is. -.-
The mat_phong 0 texture fix mod causes all the missing textures. It just doesn't work with Windows 10 for some reason.
