Steam freezes when I connect XBOX 360 wireless controller
Hi,

I have noticed that when I turn on my XBOX 360 controller steam will freeze/stop responding for a minute or two and it will do it again when I enter and exit big picture mode while my controller is turned on.

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this or may have some things I could try to solve this problem.

Its only started happening in the last month or so. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

Cheers,

Just tested the Beta client, unfortunately it is still freezing when i turn on my controller and transition to and from Big Picture Mode.

Thankyou for the suggestion though.

does it play fine otherwise though? I seriously dont see the issue.
Especially if u have a HDD, it's not going to be butter-smooth; nothing on HDD ever is.

No games are running fine, just means I have to wait a few more minutes to get into a game.

It is just a minor nuisance, bit weird that it never happened before and then just started happening one day.

I am using an SSD for the steam client but i do have my games library split between the SSD and a HDD.

Might want to manually uninstall & then re-install both the 360 Receiver and Controller.
Have the receiver connected and then turn on/connect your Controller(s) and uninstall the Controllers first, followed by the Receiver; manually from Device Manager. After they've been removed disconnect the Receiver and turn off the Controller and reboot Windows. Then install them again.
