All My Steam Games are all greyed out and say "Install" even though they're already installed
OS - Ubuntu 14.04

Hey, today I logged into my steam to notice that my entire library of games were greyed out and said "Install" instead of "Play", it's weird because when I checked the steam directory (Home/.steam/steam/steamApps/common) all the games were there and when I clicked the program executables inside the game folders they loaded and worked fine.

I decided to uninstall and then reinstall steam via the Ubuntu Software Centre, this didn't make a slight bit of difference, everything was still the same. I then deleted all the game folders inside .steam/steam/steamApps/common to reinstall all the games again, and when I was setting the game directory's I got an error message saying :-

"New Steam Library folder must be on a filesystem mounted with execute permissions"

I'm not mounting an external drive, this is my master hard drive, and it even says that it has no space available when selecting the game directory inside the installation process.

I have no idea what is going on, can anybody enlighten me? Thanks.

Having the same exact problem on the exact same OS. All of my games and files are still there. Steam is showing that there are no Steam Libraries.

Where are the steam libraries specified so I can give it the path to look in?

EDIT: Apparently the latest Linux kernel update broke things. See https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/541906989412625086/

What do you mean? If you mean to somehow make steam pick up the game files I don't think it can be done, because in the properties section of the games the files section is also greyed out. However, if you want to play the games there is still a way, you can run the game externally; go to the games directory (Home/.steam/steam/steamApps/common) and run the games executable from there. :)

To my fellow Linux users,

To make thiis trackable and easy to troubleshoot, bear with me the following questions I will provide.

1. Are you dual-booting?
2. Did you install an update or a software before you got the problem?
3. Have you tried verifying the integrity of cache files?
4. Were you able to play all the games before the problem arose?
5. Did deleting the data files relating to steam (complete wipe) from the directory and reinstall the games fix your problem?
6. DId reinstalling steam then typed commands on terminal apt-get update and apt-get autoremove then sudo reboot not fix your problem?
7. DId you make sure you have administrative power on your computer
8. Are you thinking of going to upgrade to vivd vervet 15.04?

Apparently it was a Linux kernal update that broke it, so I'm just going with that because it was working fine before I did an update.

try entering in terminal sudo apt-get upgrade. see if it works. Don't purge anything.

That's true. I loaded the system from previous kernel and steam is now working.
Working kernel: 3.13.0-58-generic, not working kernel: 3.13.0-59-generic

I'll give it a try.
