Steam Detecting out devices as input devices
Alright so ill start off by saying that this has brought to me to point of hating steam as a platform... So the issue is that steam detects output devices as input, as in it detects my speakers when i click "detect audio devices". this essencially prevents me from using my microphone (which by the way works in every other program and even omegle) on any game... I contacted steam over a month ago and simply never got a responce. i have tried it all. r

-restarting my computer
-reinstalling my driverss
-reinstalling steam
-changing usb ports
-closing all program that could possibly use the mic

Its been like this for a long time now and its frustration the hell out of me. Too many games are so much better with voice chat (gmod, cs:go, and portal for example among many others) it shouldnt be this problematic and i know im not the only one having this problem

if someone can successfully help me ill be very grateful and will gift you one steam game under 10 bucks, just to sweeten the deal.

I found out on the forums that steam support is going to say this to you:

"Hello [name],

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We apologize for the delay.

Due to the variety of microphone configurations, we are not able to provide direct support for specific microphone issues.

Please follow the link below for information:

Title: Troubleshooting Microphone Problems

There may be users with similar configurations on our Discussions that may have found a solution to this issue."

I'll keep looking If I see something out there.

On windows settings is the microphone the default?
Right click the sound icon and recording devices.
Do you use skype?
Some say that messes things up on steam.

Hey Steve! Feb 10, 2016 @ 6:30am
I got that exact reply when I asked support about it several months ago. I just changed which output (and input) device I am using and restarted Steam then it said updating configuration or something, I went to the voice tab and it has picked up the different device, but again, the output and not the input. This is clearly not limited to individual sound cards.
