Why has my saved payment info vanished?
Today I noticed that the credit card details normally saved to my account are no longer there. I haven't removed them myself and I'm almost certain they were still attached the last time I checked my Account Details page (a few weeks ago?). I've had this same thing happen once before about a year ago and I couldn't work out the cause then either. Does Steam delete saved payment info after a period of inactivity or something? (I haven't bought anything since early January.)

I'm kind of worried about this because I know payment info is deleted if an account is accessed from a new computer (although neither my Steam nor Gmail accounts shows any signs of comprimise so it seems unlikely that is the reason).

I know this also happens if you change your password but I haven't done that either.

If anyone could shed some light on the cause of this I'd appreciate it.

I've heard this happen before, particularly to a friend of mine. He said the same thing; that he hadn't used the card in a long while. Probably just due to inactivity to prevent old, invalid cards from being charged, which would get you a 5 day validation "ban" (not really a ban, but you cant buy from the market for 5-10 days). Easy fix, just type it all back in under "account details

Thanks for replying, and yeah, inactivity seems like the most likely explanation. The previous time this happened was also after a period of not buying anything for about six months. The card itself doesn't expire for almost a year though, which is one reason why I find the whole thing a bit weird. I guess maybe Steam just doesn't want to hang onto that info if it's possibly not going to be used again.

I'm just one of those people who is super crazy paranoid about this sort of stuff.

Yeah, I've noticed that Steam is a very security-crazed software. In a good way... An annoying way at times, but a good way hehe. Just re-enter your info, I think you'll be okay. No need to be paranoid, you're not getting any stray or "stolen" purchases/authorizations.

Steam is insane with how much security they put on things.

I'm annoyed that I have to re enter my info at all. I wish they would ask me about it before deleting it. Two thumbs down for steam.

Changing or resetting your password clears payment information.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
