Can copied games be included in your library if you already bought it?
So during this steam sale, i recently bought a game titled: "The Last Remnant". As i was about to download it, the timer on my Download said it would take 4-5days to finish. I can't wait that long, my friend here left his external HDD and it contained a copy of the game. I don't think he got it legally but the game is not cracked and even contained some steam files in it. In order for me to prevent my gruesome 4-5day Download ordeal, would it be possible to copy the entire game folder and paste it to "Steamapp/common" folder? would it run?

If not do you know of anyway? Also as i said, the game is BOUGHT already and is included in my library, i just want to avoid the download considering there seems to be a copy of it on his HDD already.

What you could probably do is play the game using his copy with the .exe (if it has one) in the folder. You can probably transfer the SAVE files into your STEAM folder (I have done this with Skyrim and other games in between computer wipes from an external HDD), but you want to go ahead and queue/dl your steam copy.

So you get to have your cake and eat it too!

Does this mean i will still have to download the game from steam? Is there no way to just "verify game contents" then the DL que would be totally gone and Steam would then just have to re-update it for my steam account credentials?

Legally speaking you can do that yes. Because you own the game you can play any pirated/cracked version of the game. BUT any steam files that were from a "pirated/cracked" copy more than likely have altered data in them (I.e the Steamapi.dll file) that could be picked up by Steams servers as unauthorised.

I would leave Steam turned off when running the game personally, though i doubt it really matters.

I don't think you understand the situation quite well. I BOUGHT the game on summer sale already and added the game on my library. Now instead of downloading it from steam, i would like to just copy it from my friend's HDD (probably a cracked copy). What i waould want to happen is for steam to replace any files that are not suppose to be there thus making my game STEAM LEGIT.

All i want to happen is to avoid the insane 4day dowload.
