Steam turning off after a while?
Yesterday I got my new gaming computer built. I left it on last night to download games. When I got on today steam program had shut down and then I had to restart my computer because it was too laggy and when I opened steam back up I only had 1 game downloaded about 95%. Is there any way to make it so it doesn't shut down automatically?

Usually Steam won't shut down automatically, but just set your status to "away" or "busy". Steam will even stay open if you lose your internet connection in between, it will automatically reconnect once your internet is back.

Did you turn off the power saving of your new computer? Everything will go offline if the computer enters Standby or Sleepmode.

I have it set so the display turns off in 1 hour, and it never goes to sleep. I also had turned off the display right when I went to go to sleep. I also had my steam account as away I am 99% sure.

Turning off the monitors will result in your PC entering sleepmode when the PC turned them off due to not using the mouse or anything for a while. Just deactivate any powersaving in your windows just to make sure (It could happen that your PC enters sleepmode even while watching movies on your PC).

One other scenario might be that your Steamclient had an error and shut itself down over night, since you were sleeping you might not have noticed. Just a thought since you said that your PC was a lot slower when you got back at it.

Alright thank you for the info, I will do what you suggested. It probably was an error like you said, but maybe with the sleepmode too. Thanks for the help!!
