Remove(or let us disable) Wallet as default store payment method
After the 5th or so time of accidentally using my wallet funds to buy a game, I'm coming to post this issue here. If we could add money to our wallet in any amount this would not be an issue. But we can't.Unless there is already a way to do this it needs to be changed.

Currently:
If you have funds in your wallet, and go to make a store purchase, it will spend your wallet funds first, then charge your credit card the remaining amount.

To avoid this you must:
Select your wallet on the checkout screen, then change the payment method to something else. You must do this every single time you make a purchase.

Since I currently use the wallet ONLY for buying cards to complete badges, it is INCREDIBLY inconvenient to have to dump money into it every time I happen to forget and accidentally buy a game with it.

I realize that some people use the wallet to buy games, so here is my suggestion:

Let us choose a "Primary Payment Method" via our account screen. Have it charge that FIRST before looking in your wallet (If the wallet is not first of course).

NOTE: I'm posting this in "help and Tips" instead of "Suggestions / Ideas" because this particular situation causes unintended purchasing behaviors, which is most definitely a support issue. I also realize that just like every other request on all these discussion boards, it will never be implemented because Steam is more interested in pushing experimental features, than making it easier for it's CURRENT community to use.

EDIT: I stand corrected. After nearly 4 years, Steam did manage to get around to mostly fixing the major bug with it's specials page in the store. Here is hoping that in another 4 years we get the ability to permanently remove games from our account, hide games in our game library, or tag and sort the games in our library.

Agreed. I was about to post the same thing. It's annoying to put it mildly. It's happened to me no less than four times since this sale has started and it's getting aggravating (would prefer to describe it as something to do with urinating).

I don't keep much money in my Steam Wallet because I simply use my credit card to make purchases. I don't fund my wallet with mom and dad's CC or grandma's birthday prepaid gift card. I have funds in my bank account to buy what I want. What little funds I do keep in my Wallet (usually less than a dollar) I like to hang on to for buying cards and stuff in the marketplace. I have no urge to add money from my bank account. Just buy/sell what's in my inventory.

I had finally built up a bit of money in my Wallet to buy the cards I wanted, wound up buying a game, and POOF, no more Wallet funds. Oh yeah, forgot to untick that stupid Wallet payment method. Again. Guess I'm SOL on the cards until I vote a bunch more times. Cards and profile bg's and stuff are not worth my personal money, I've got better frivolous garbage to buy with the cash I worked for that I can actually touch and use or eat.

Please add a way to disable this as a default payment. It's a secondary payment method, not primary. You even have to use your card to add funds to your wallet. Or at least add a pop-up asking to confirm you want to use your Wallet funds.

Thanks.

And yeah, I'm not too impressed with the direction Steam has been going the last 4-6 years. More than a few basic things they should implement to make using it and managing your stuff easier.

Easy way to hide games is to put the ones you would delete into a "delete" category then you only see them if you open that particular folder.

But I agree the wallet funds as primary payment is really annoying. Also why can't we gift wallet funds to friends. I often want to buy my friends a prezzy and am not sure what games/dlc they most want so would like to give them a gift to their wallet on-line. Steam is just missing out on income as there is no way I'm going to go to a shop to buy a card to send to a friend. That's as outdated as buying content on cd

Ahh, but a separate folder is not enough. I do this at the moment, but it still has issues. If you do a search in your games library, it will expand all the folders again. This was not an issue until my games library got into the hundreds. Now that I have more games I have them in about 50 different folders, which is HUGELY tedious to minimize over and over.

Also, since a game can only be in ONE folder, you have to decide whether to make your folders too general, and risk still not being able to find games. Or make them very specific, and risk not being able to find "that game" because you sorted it a specific way.

Example: What folder do you put Dishonored in?
Action
Stealth
FPS
Finished
Complete (AKA, All achievements done, probably won't play again)

With tags, this wouldn't be a problem. Even better if we could filter OUT by tags, so anything "Complete" would not get shown. Not to mention the 70ish BETA versions of games that I can't get out of my library, or the free2play ones that I tried out and don't play, that will always be there...

As to the gifting wallet funds. I'm sure it would be a HUGE hassle. Some countries consider gift cards tender, requiring tracking and tariffs. Letting you give wallet funds to others might not even be legal in some places. Not to even think about exchange rates or the possibility of money laundering.

One of the reasons that companies can get away with gift "cards" is that they have no value. Only the code on the card has meaning. Trading the codes IS restricted in some places, but trading a physical item with codes on it is not.

I don't really see this as a huge problem. If your wallet funds are spent instead of your credit card/bank account, why not just add the funds you intended for the game to your Steam wallet. The most you can have to pay extra is $4,99 from your prior wallet amount. I understand that's not the priceable of the argument though.

Also, you may want to look into enhanced Steam as you can select a custom funding amount.

Lastly, there is a $5 minnimum due to transaction fees and % of sale transaction that is charged by credit card companies and companies like paypal

There are also other workarounds I'm sure you can find them by googling them.

A. EnhancedSteam servers are getting absolutely POUNDED because it is the sale. I'm not surprised that half the features aren't working right now due to server load.

B. I have the settings page open on BOTH FireFox AND Chrome and there is nothing even remotely like that in them.

I will add my voice to this. Steam just stole my wallet funds for a game purchase when I forgot to choose card again. It used to default to my card always, now every time I must change it, and the one time I forget BAM, all my wallet funds gone. So f-ing annoying, so badly implemeneted.

Just let us pick OUR CHOSEN default payment method and stop PRESUMING we always want to use our wallet funds. Now all the market trades, my buy orders will fail and all the time spent selling, wasted AND i have to spend MORE money to add back to wallet in the future.

This should be a standard feature.

Unbelievable that this is still unresolved.

Bump. Had this happen to me, extremely annoying. This should really be a user setting.

This has happened to me twice this year. I really wish that there was a preference in my Steam account for having the wallet checkbox default to false instead of true.
