Why do only 30 people get free games when they win that day?
Seems low considering how many people are using Steam and buying games. Thoughts?

Value could have 100 winners a day and not lose money.
It depends on how you define "lose money".

i don't know if you have a job. But lets pretend you have a job that pays you $1000 a month (just to use a nice round number). If you give away $500 of your paycheck to me.. and i told you "No no, it's cool, you haven't LOST any money yet (merely because you haven't gone into negative numbers yet)" wouldn't that seem absurd?

Of course you've /lost/ $500 of the income you otherwise would have had to pay your rent, pay your other bills, go out to eat, see a movie.. yadda yadda. To suggest you really haven't lost anything until you give me your entire check and /then/ some seems.. bizarre?

Even giving away $500 dollars worth of games Valve has "lost money".

The average is likely closer to $20 then $40. Most people are not going to be just putting expensive games on their wishlists for the sake of it. So more like $20,000 for the entire sale.

With all the people buying cards and buying games to get more cards to craft badges for their team I'm sure value is making more then $20,000 a day on card sales alone.
Have you ever seen that "Monopoly" game thing McDonald's does sometimes? Maybe it's only a USA thing and maybe you aren't from the USA.

But.. every so often (once a year? or less?) McDonalds does this "Monopoly" game thing where when you buy certain foods, you get like a sticker thingie.. for a game piece of a Monopoly board or somethin. Which might have a prize.

http://www.playatmcd.com/#prizes

Here you can even see the winners there. So.. 1 (or 2) people end up winning 1 million dollars. "Wow!" you might say, that's /way more than Valve/ is giving away. But It's nothing to McDonalds, McDonalds is worth billions over 90 BILLION (according to forbes http://www.forbes.com/companies/mcdonalds/). So giving a single customer 1 million once a year or less is... nothing they could of course afford to give out way more. Bu they don't.

i'm not so sure what the point is for people thinking Valve ought to give away higher and higher percentages of their profits for free. Why?

What percentage of your income do you give away to charity? Why do you think Valve owes you (or any of us) anything? They are a business, not your mommy or daddy? The sales are great, having a chance at participating in a raffle if you or i want is just a bonus. Sure the chance is small but... i dunno. Seems weird how some people (perhaps not you specifically) seem to have thus aura of "Valve owes me something because ____"? i dunno..

Your changing the argument. The post I replied to implied that value could not afford to give more games away. I have people on my friends listing spending vastly more money on cards/crafting badges each summer sale day then their top 3 most expensive games on their wish lists.

I'm not saying value should give more games away but I am saying they could do without it being a issue for them. They could reward 500 people a day and all that would happen is they would end up with more money from card sales from people trying to win.:greenteam:

We have the monopoly thing here but it's a bad example. In that game you have to buy a meal to get stickers. You can't just buy the stickers from a marketplace run by mc donalds. The other issue with it is people throw away the stickers not knowing that they could be winners as there only part of a set.:rfacepalm: Apples/oranges.

The only thing I want from value is to make it so all early access games have to sign a contract saying they will finish their game within 4 years of release or they have to refund any moneys. :RogueMoneybags:
people just like to cry the fact there even giving away 90 games a day is great in and of itself and people complain because they want more stuff for free grow up people
Will go off topic a bit here, but I have a question. I reckon that games unavailable for purchase (like Alien Isolation or Batman Arkham Knight) aren't vailid prizes. So if I have those 2 on top of my wishlist, does that mean that IF I win I'd get only the third game from the list or the next 3 purchasable ones?

That doesn't answer my question, but thanks anyway.

I don't know how that does not answer your question but

Any game that has a price tag next to it (example battleblock threature $3.75) you could win if you were to win the prize the games like arkham knight (no price) can not be won

That's the best I can explain it sorry
I'm asking if I have to rearange my wishlist and put my purchasable games on top. I am well aware that the games without a price are out of the question.

No it's any game on your Wishlist that can be chosen so no need to

Any? I though that only the 3 at the top.

No it's any 3 (as far as I know) on your wishlist

The rules say otherwise.
"Each day the team with the most points wins. 30 members of that team who contributed points that day will win the top 3 games off their Wishlist."

It is too

I'm sorry I'll be quiet now :(
It's just a small motivation to join a Team. I don't think it's a price for winning a contest
