Why dont i need to put in my Paypal Password anymore?
While this might be seen as convenient i see it as a flaw. the last 3 games i got admittedly low value games Steam and not asked me to put in my paypal username / password details and gone ahead and charged my paypal account. not only is this annoying because i cant opt for my credit card it will come straight out of my bank account.. and yeah i know i could choose credit card on the payment screen but that means finding the damn thing. it can be a bit dangerous. Im thining of other people where they might have kids who have access to their steam account where they could buy games DLC and god knows maybe for low value but it all can add up. there was a thing where xbox live kept the parents CC details and where the kids where charging a fortune on DLC for the latest FIFA game.

PLEASE steam can you put it back where you have to go though paypal's details when you buy a game though paypal. and also...

Go through 'Steam'->'Settings'-->>'Account details' and remove your paypal account as a creditcard.

I noticed the same thing as you did and wanted it gone for security reasons. Took some searching, but this will fix it.

It's really a paypal option you picked (i believe).

When you were directed to paypal last time paypal probably asked you if you wanted to do this "pre-approval" thing. If you say yes... it sets your paypal up to allow Steam (or any other website) to bill you without you entering your password.

You might not have even realised you agreed to that last time you were on Paypal.

You can "unset" it from Paypal (rather than fully removing Steam from remembering your paypal), by going to Paypal's website, going to your "Profile", then "My Money" and viewing your "My Preapproved Payment" section.

And really it is /not/ Steam's fault. This is a /paypal/ setting you probably unknowingly agreed to last time you made a paypal payment to Steam.

It is a /Paypal/ trying to push its "Pre-approved Payments" thing on people.

has anyone done what Dinophiliac has suggested. Am worried about what affect this will have on my Steam account. I have no issue using paypal just want to be able to approve each purchase, not have it pre-aproved?

Thanks

From my experience with my desktop and ultrabook, you have to connect and agree to paypal linking/bypass on each device you have , so if your account was highjacked then they won't have access to it.

account has not been hijacked i noticed last night when purchasing from the sale that it was not asking me for the password anyore on Paypal. I have looked on my paypal account and nothing hinky going on just Steam is on the preapproval list. I would like to unlink it and would just like info from anyone that has unlinked it so that they can put password in each time?

Also what security do you go through if you pay directly with a credit card?

Valve is big enough to have their own processing net work so the info probably goes through valves processing network, through the brand of card (Amex, visa, etc..)., to the cards issuer (BOA, Chasse, etc...) then back to valve.

On your end you can store the billing info and card number, it will only display the last 4 from then on and you will just have to enter the cvc on the back of the card

Wee Ronster you will probably interested in this: http://www.incgamers.com/2014/06/valve-adds-manual-credit-card-verification-on-steam
I know it has gone live but I can't find the page but one of those links might take you to it. It's a new program the just recently launched to make the new payment method less restrictive.
