1. Open up Control Panel and then go to Devices and Printers.
2. Right click on one of your game controllers and click Game Controller Settings. Note where in the list it is. If it is not at the top proceed to the next step.
3. Right click and remove all your other controllers (not the 360/gamepad) and let them reinstall automatically.
4. Once complete right click and check the list again and see if the 360 controller/gamepad is at the top. If so, give the game another try and see if it detects your controller.
step 1 Restart your pc (with the controller connected to the pc) <- important
step 2 Immediatly start searching for a connection with the controller so the 4 lights start blinking
step 3 when the pc starts back up it should reconnect as player 1.
I have noticed that if the controller is not the first one to connect to the computer the wireless receiver will take its place. (upon restarting of the computer after intial connections, etc)
Hope that helped. Took me forever to figure this out.
You are THE MAN. Had 3 pads all connecting to player 3 no matter what I did. Now it is sorted!
I am glad I could help someone... So much pain and suffering trying to resolve this issue...
Thank you for this! I have had issues with a couple games not working with my Logitech wireless controller but my wouldn't respond with my wired 360 controller because it was stuck on player 2 or 3. Tried shutting down and turning on but that didn't work, restarting is the key, with the controller plugged in. There should be a system option for controllers to change player settings like the Wii does. Thanks again!
man I can't tell .... YOU are a true hero!!!!! :) thanks a lot, saved my day :)
Any way to fix this that does NOT involve a restart? I honestly feel that restarting my entire machine just to fix a controller order problem is overkill.
I only have one controller plugged in at a time in an effort to avoid this, but the Player 2 Light of Death happens anyway from time to time.
Running Windows 10 Home Edition.
If you just pull out your controller, log off, log back on and replug your controller, it also works
