Mic works on skype but not in steam?
So I have literally tried everything in my opinion. I have also linked pictures of my current settings

I have set my microphone headset as defeault on recording devices and playback devices, checked the properties >levels> 100, of my microphone, and my microphone still doesn't work in steam but it works on skype?

I checked my system information on steam, and realised that steam cannot detect my sound card for some weird reason, but i know my computer has a sound card because i can still use skype!

Can someone please help me? I have also tried the "test microphone" in the voice tab of steam setting aswell as checking for audio devices and then following the prompts of setting my microphone headset as default.

Should steam utilise my headset microphone (set as default in recording devices) as the audio device, or should it utilise my headset earphone (set as default in playback devices) as the audio device? Because steam is using the headset earphone as the audio device from the playback devices and instead should it utilise my default device from my recording devices which is my headset microphone? Please help!

Shouldn't Steam say "Headset Microphone" as audio input instead of "Headset Earphone?" Try clicking on CHANGE DEVICE in Steam and select "Headset Microphone."

exactly my point, it only changes to "headset microphone" if i disable all my playback devices and then click change devices, including "headset earphone", it then changes to headset microphone, i then "test microphone" but it still does not work. It seems to me like steam is getting my recording and playback devices mixed up :S

how exactly do "i select" the headset microphone?

Is there any update to this ? I have the exact same problem. I just got my Asus Xonar U5 usb soundcard. Works in windows, skype, everything except for steam. Picture here: https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1503x468q90/r/674/frlEex.jpg

I do not have any other soundcard than the USB, and well, the HDMI port of the GFX also shows up, but its not used.

In the picture I linked you can see that the device manager puts the soundcard in 2 places, "Audio inputs and outs" and "Sound, video and game controllers". I think this is what probably is making it difficult for Steam to recognize the mic.

I have circled what I think might be of interest or suspicious.

Here's a quick <1m video on how I got the mic to work with Steam Voice through my ASUS Xonar U5 USB Soundcard.
