NBA 2k14 GFWL is broken.... Can I transfer the licence to steam??

Greetings.
I purchased a year or two ago boxed versions of Crysis 2 and BM Arkham Asylum in a 2 for $20 retail bargain bin.

Everything was fine until someone bought me Nba 2k14 (boxed) as a present earlier this year.

At the time, I just inserted the disc and installed as instructed.

Down the track, when I booted up Arkham Asylum, I noticed afterwards that nba seemed to have uninstalled itself, leaving no trace it was ever there except the files 'Safe Mode' and 'Uninstall securerom components' (including the desktop shortcut and all my save files grrr)

So afterwards I noticed that I could add nba to my library as a third party program and that steam sells this game, but the cd key in the box won't redeem on steam.

I've been hearing a lot of a lot of publishers trying to move their games functionality to steam as they all jump ship from GFWL.

So my question is can I move this particular title over, as it was paid for and I don't want to reinstall it just to lose all my progress again?

If so, how would I make this happen or who would you suggest I talk to.

Nope, if the game you bought before didn't come with a key to redeem on Steam, then you would have to buy it again from Steam.

That being said...

If the game is being moved to SteamWorks, you should look for updates from the publisher, they may have something special for people with non-Steam keys.

For example, for Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Asylum, there's this post.

I feel it is a wiser choice to vote with ones wallet lest the companies that chose to use such a consumer-unfriendly DRM choose a similarly annoying, or worse, one for their future games. I try not to encourage anticonsumer behavior.

Eeehhh screw it. $12.50 on the steam sale to avoid this nonsense in the future. Ffs I hope microsoft goes broke, and with the new CEO saying "cloud first, mobile first", i.e. gamers and business can go screw, I think that's more than likely.

GFWL is still alive and kicking for game activation and multiplayer and will be for awhile. Just make sure you have the latest version of GFWL. If you have to reinstall, a lot of times save files are in my documents so they could be preserved there or if not you could just google the location.
