Webcam microphone not working with steam and tf2
When I went into the settings to change it to the webcam, its not there was it only reads sound stuff, not the webcam :/

Help?

More info: Cant use a normal microphone because the front jack gives me static in my earbuds when using them, and the back port is covered by a huge plug.

Go to windows sound control panel and make sure the correct device is selected in the recording tab.

There is nothing there relating to the webcam, yet it records fine outside of steam.

Windows control panel- sound- recording. Not steam. There has to be something there if it records fine outside of steam.

Post images if you can.

Well you are not doing something right for sure. Post your image of the sound recording options.

Like this.

The webcam not appearing will mean steam wont be able to pick it up. Try looking for any updated drivers. I just made sure and my webcam does show in the recoding options the moment i plug it in.
Did you try another usb slot and check to see if it appears?

Indeed, that really seems to be a drivers issue. I currently use a webcam as microphone, with usb plug, and it works perfectly in games, it's even shining when an invader comes!

What's your webcam model?
I don't know if it well helps, but, sometimes, motherboard drivers (and usb ones) aren't up to date and are causing a lot of problems.

But that's still kind of weird... (ಠ_ಠ )

It's very strange, but I managed to see the reaction to the verification of the microphone on Steam only after recording the video with the sound using the webcam utility amcap, downloaded from the official website of the manufacturer. I also set the volume to 100%, noticing that even on 70%, the strips of the Windows sound indicator (not only on Steam) stopped rising in response to the sounds. By the way, the video was recorded with a sound from the second time, on 100% volume of the microphone, and before that I was perfectly audible in Skype at 70%.
