Missing Executable / Not downloading game files
Hey all!

So I submitted a ticket to Steam Support, but that's taking a while :<

Meanwhile half the games I bought last night won't download. It goes through the normal purchase -> install -> location -> game is now downloading. Except it's NOT downloading. As soon as it starts, it reports as finished with 0 / 0 bytes downloaded.

I've tried restarting Steam, starting as Admin, verifying cache, deleting appcache + blob + everything else, attempted a million redownloads of the games... nothing is happening.

I've seen a few posts about this issue scattered about the last 3-4 days. What's going on, and is anyone else facing the same issues? :-l

EDIT:

Ok, so now I've tried downloading the same games I'm experiencing trouble with on three different computers and over two different ISPs, and the problem is the same. It refuses to download any of my game files. Simply goes from downloading to done instantly.

Any ideas? :s

Sadly your link was the first article that I google'd, but as stated in my OP:

"I've tried restarting Steam, starting as Admin, verifying cache, deleting appcache + blob + everything else, attempted a million redownloads of the games... nothing is happening."

Steam refuses to download the game files, and verifying integrity gives a message saying that everything verified OK. Been using Steam since forever, and never had an issue like this...

Last edit:

The issue has solved itself. After waiting about 4-5 days, the games with the missing files problem simply worked when attempting another download. I would guess that whatever error was ongoing at Steam's end was solved.

So for those of you who tried the Troubleshooting guide and nothing worked - simply waiting a few days before attempting a redownload may be the only answer.

It was properly a server side problem. If it works for you now, it should work for everybody else.

Then you can probably say which game and what specs you have. (By the way, 2014 thread.)

EDIT: Although you did seemingly play Dying Light yesterday, so it's probably not that you're trying to run a 64-bit game on a 32-bit OS; unless the Dying Light was played on another PC.

You can also try putting the game's folder to your antivirus' real-time scan exceptions and then try to verify the game cache from [Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache]
