NEED HELP! Downloads keep freezing my PC!
Hi everyone, i'm in a dilema. i built my own pc just about a week ago and all is running well on it until i started downloading specific games. i started out by downloading a previously purchased game from my other computer (The Witcher 2: The enhanced edition) and i next bought the forest a few days later. i had no problem with installing those two games. next i tried to install another game i had previously bought on the same other computer (Total War: Shogun 2) EXCEPT this is where all my issues started to arise. the download was going well until i decided to walk out of the room. i came back into the room to find my pc totally frozen. no mouse movement, no ctrl alt delete command would work, nothing. i had to give my pc a hard reboot. this kept occuring about 5 or 6 more times. but the odd thing is, the pc wouldnt freeze if i was moving the mouse cursor. its when it stopped is when it froze. i finally got it downloaded through constant cursor movement and when i loaded it up the game always said "total war shogun 2 isnt responding" so at that point i became fed up and removed it until i figured out what was wrong. tonight i wanted to purchase DayZ, so i did, AND THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED. I haven't the faintest idea what's wrong, i defragged my HDD, didn't work, i have yet to find anywhere over the internet with the same problem with me. Can anyone help me please? I'm dying to figure out how to fix this because I'm worried seeing i just built this PC about a week ago. Please if anyone can help please let me know!

sorry, re-read your post and saw that you defragged your computer. that would have cleaned the ram. try updating your drivers.

yes

I've restarted it numerous times. It's literally a week old computer so I highly doubt there's enough dust (if any) to do any damage. It literally only freezes during these downloads. This is so confusing. I would delete the steam app and re download again but I don't want to lose any of my save games on the two other games I've been able to download and play.

could it be overheating?

And I think my drivers are up to date. I use msi's live update and my GeForce program to automatically check for the drivers and it tells me both are up to date.

No I don't think so because the witcher 2 is a pretty graphical game and I run it on high settings for hours at a time without any problem. At least I don't think it's over heating. Could my power settings on balanced have anything to do with it?

is this only when you download in steam?
ArmedxPenguin Jun 13, 2014 @ 5:05am
Yep. Only in steam so far

Bump!

you could try running steam as administrator and deleting your clientregistry.blob file
ArmedxPenguin Jun 13, 2014 @ 2:44pm
what does the clientregistry.blob file do?

deleting it fixes a lot of problems on steam, but not all. it's worth a shot because otherwise i don't what could be causing it.
