(Resolved) Moved from US to Korea, no updates?

Hello all,

I recently was sent to Korea via Uncle Sam and while I can certainly access and use my Steam games, the one's I have installed don't seem to be updating like they would while stationed in the States. Is there a server issue that must be addressed when changing locations or something I must change in settings to get my current library to update?

Resolution: It was a firewall issue with using the government internet in the Dragon Hill Lodge. Once I re-located off the installation and got onto a Korean Provider, it updated all games installed in the library. It actually took a good chunk of time to do so. Thanks for all recommendations and assistance.

You could try going into your download settings and changing which server to download updates from.

I tried that already, selected South Korea....nothing happens. Occasionally, I see 1 update every 2 days, but it's completed instantly and only ever ARMA 3. I've never had just one game update, always multiple each day except weekends.

I guess I am concerned there's some sort of ban in Korea with Steam, even though they are one of the countries selectable on the pull down menu. Just wierd and hoping someone had similar issues and resolved them successfully.

I also noticed after re-installing Sniper Elite 2, that it doesn't save my newest campaign after I log off either. It only saves the older campaign file from about a year ago. So, I would think the cloud isn't syncing as it should after closing out each time as well.

Sounds more like your base is blocking Steams content servers

Yeah, I think there's some truth to that. I cannot look at some websites such as sim outhouse, because oouthouse is part of the title, I guess. Perhaps it will change once I move off base.

I doubt its a ban for Steam in Korea (Definately in North Korea, if your caught playing steam games there....). South Korea is a very big country for technology and games, similiar to Japan, so I don't think thats the problem.

I'd say contact Steam Support.

He's on a US military base which more or less complicates matters significantly. It's unlikley Support can determine what is or is not allowed via US military base policies.

Glad you got it sorted out. It appears Uncle Sam does not approve of online gaming as part of their training regiment!

LOL, well, yes and no. If you google VBS3 and VBS2, they have an online capability to small unit collective training. However, when it comes to outright gaming and killing zombies in Day Z and Nazi's in Wolfenstein...sorta hard to classify as legitimate online training. Just glad to see I can surf my usual online forums again as well.
