Steam login name vs. display name
Is there any official prohibition or discouragement of using one's login name as one's display name?

You mean your account name? I don't think so, a few of my friends use theirs as their display name.
I remember reading, once, somewhere, that it's encourged that people don't use their login names as their display names, but I can't find it.

For safety reasons it's probably a good idea to keep your login name and display name differently. If you use your login name then you're doing half the job of hackers already.

Well, it's obviously discouraged because if you use your account name as your display name, all someone would need to do is figure out your password to get into your account. But you can still use your account name as your displayed one, it's not like you'd get banned or anything like that.
