Can you play fallout 3 on windows 8.1?
I love fallout 3 and I want to get it on my PC. But I am not sure if it will run on windows 8.1. I tried looking it on google, but there are mixed reviews. IF it works for you, please tell me how you got it to run. Thanks!

I personally hate Win 8.1, as it's just a stepping stone OS with no real PC desktop mode or use (for the testing of Win 9 - a fixed up version of it to be released in 2016), they did the same with Vista vs Win 7, however I love Fallout 3 and to help out...

It's not offically compatible with Win 8.1:

However, Fallout 3 - Game of The Year Edition, might be?

I suggest avoiding the original version 1 and trying Fallout 3 GOTY if anything... You might have to manually fiddle around with any Games for Windows LIVE installations that might be required. Note Microsoft has shutdown/discontinued GFWL, so you might not need it, not sure.

But if required, use this (ignore Xbox, it's the PC client version):

Install with compatibility mode if needed, before the installation of the actual game.

...Really? Wow, you're misguided.

But, yes, Fallout 3 works very well with 8.1.

Agreed, Azza doesn't really know what he's talking about when it comes to Windows 8.1.

I've been playing Fallout 3 on Windows 8.1 Update 1 (latest version) with no problems at all. I've also got a lot of mods (~30) installed in Fallout 3 and have no problems. In fact, with exactly the same components, I get around 3fps more on Windows 8.1 than I did on Windows 7. Go figure...

I play the Steam 'Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition': http://store.steampowered.com/app/22370/

This version that I play has no problems with Windows 8.1 and you can install whichever mods you may want without issue.

The only issue I have with Fallout 3 and one of the mods I use is that the night is dark, very dark, and I get a little scared... ;D

That is one of the purposes of the mod, though. So, all okay. =)

Thanks guys! But i have one more question. Do i need GOTY? and if i do, should i buy it right off steam or in like a disc form of amazon or something?

Well, with the GOTY Edition you get all the DLC's, which are pretty good in their own right and do add quite a bit to the game. At this moment in time, all the DLC's will cost you £19.95, not including the base game. Amazon doesn't have a copy of 'Fallout 3 GOTY' PC in stock and doesn't look like it will have again, as no date is listed. At the moment, Fallout 3 GOTY is £14.99 on Steam. I paid £4.94 for it in a sale on Green Man Gaming.

So, it's up to you how much you want it and when. You can either buy it online as a CD/DVD or wait for it to come on sale.

Edit: I'll be nice to you. Here's a sale for 'Fallout 3 GOTY Edition' on Steam. You'll get a Steam key which you'll be able to add through Steam. It's £4. Very cheap!

Tell me how you get on or what you decide to do. And yes, it is a genuine/legit site.

Edit: You'll have to be quick! On the site it says; "* While serial numbers supplies last"

Thank you! I will probably get it somewhere else though because I don't use pounds. Thanks for all the help!

Yes both FO3 and NV works just fine on Win8/8.1
At the very least u might have to "Run As Admin" and maybe apply either Vista or Win7 mode, but still runs just fine.

U can get them at discount on: G 2 A .com
Just use their search box.

And yes you can go elsewhere and get the retail media disc version very cheap; however it will require Steam activation to use, so the actual disc is useless. As it would be better to just register your key on Steam and download the game that way, which will already be up-to-date and such.
