how to use steam games on second harddrive
Hello, I just added an SSD to my computer and installed windows on it. Now steam is installed on the SSD as well. I have almost 1TB worth of steam games on the old (now secondary) HDD and I don't have room to move all of that onto the SSD. I've created a second directory for steamapps which I can install to, but steam doesn't search the new directory for already installed games and starts downloading them into the folder where the game data ALREADY RESIDES. What the heck steam? Is there a way getting steam to check and verify all the games stored on my second HDD?

In addition to creating the new directory on the drive, have you made sure you've added the new library via Steam settings? In the top left corner of the Steam client, click "Steam" > "Settings" > "Downloads" tab > "Steam Library Folders" button. Check and make sure that any and all Steam libraries across all your drives (i.e. C:\Program Files\Steam\, D:\Steam\) you may have are in that list.

Sorry I didn't include that in but I've done that, the directory has been added to steam library folder.
Nevermind after downloading one game steam finished making the correct directry structure and now I see where the files should have gone. Everything works as it's supposed to.
