Achievements Not Appearing

I've been having problems with Steam. Sometimes they just don't appear on the Steam library page/layout. When they should have unlocked they don't. I have to restart Steam to even get any achievements to appear in my library. When they do appear, the ones that should have been unlocked aren't unlocked.

This has happened with Transistor and the latest episode of Wolf Among Us. Is there anything I can do?

I have also run into this. I've earned every achievement but two in Prime World Defenders, yet Steam shows I am short five. Of the three discrepancies, I could maybe replay the level that awards two of them, but I'm not sure if it would unlock on Steam if the game itself won't see that I've earned a new achievement. The third is awarded for having built 2500 towers, and I can't very well go back and build by 2500th tower again. Anyone have any info on getting Steam to accurately see the achievements I've earned in-game?

According to the FAQ: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4462-UIOB-0425

"The Steam development team is still ironing out some of the bugs with the Steam stats and achievements." "...your stats and achievements may not be recorded. Unfortunately, that means they will not appear later when everything returns back to normal." "In any cases where you are missing achievements, they unfortunately cannot be restored. You will need to re-attain achievements that have been lost."

I see this as 'we know there are bugs, if you lost connection while earning achievements you're just SoL, we're not going to restore achievements, and there's really nothing anyone intends to do about it until they finish working it all out at whatever priority they deem appropriate'. Which may or may not be never.

And it's just happened with X-COM too. Sick of this. Why aren't achievements done locally then synced up? Seems ridiculous that I have to resort to "other methods" to unlock achievements that I have earned.

This happened to me yesterday with the Wolf Among Us episode 1. I played in offline mode and my achievrements didn't show up in steam and are now lost in the game as well. I played part of it again in online mode last night and the new achievements showed up. Makes me sad :(

The only 'fix' is to incrementally back up your save data. I actually turned my personal %appdata% folder into a symbolic link to a folder in dropbox. The files were all backed up, each change recorded, so I could just go back to dropbox and restore an older version of the files, and replay earning the achievements. Won't work after the fact, but might help someone in the future.
