In trading, what do people mean by keys...
Like they say they have a game to trade and are looking for 5 TF2 keys.
Is that activation keys?

Keys are items in Team Fortress 2 that are used to unlock crates.

"Keys" usually means the keys sold in the Mann Co. Store to unlock Crates. They are usually valued somewhere between $2 and $3.

It's an imaginary item (exists in a game only) that is used on another imaginary item (some sort of box or other container I imagine) to play the imaginary item lottery and try to win more imaginary items.

Absolutely not.

Click on my name to see similar keys.

Oooo I see, like in game currency, right right I'm with you, do other games have keys in game also to unlock stuff? I hear quite a few mentioned.

Thanks for clearing that up!

DOTA 2 has keys, and other games usually have some form of digital currency. Mostly, though, it deals with the biggest Free to Play games.

Don't. To quote a Chinese proverb: "He who asks a question is a fool for a minute. He who does not is a fool forever."

Lol, in that case, what do they also mean when they say 'ref'

Hah, I don't know that one. I'm not a big free to play player. Maybe someone else can answer you?

Refined Metal.

A wise individual once told me that Refined Metals are imaginary components used to craft imaginary equipment that you can wear to impress imaginary friends in the imaginary world known as Team Fortress 2.

Ref would probably be reference, or rep = reputation which is an imaginary measure of a person's "Steam trade trustworthiness" that is pretty much useless due to the fact that anyone can make an infinite number of accounts and "rep" themselves up to any point that they wish. You will see this in the form of "+rep" notes on a person's profile sometimes from people who have (supposedly, see above) traded with that person and are "vouching" for them.

My morbidly obese classmate, an amazing Team Fortress 2 player in her own right, claims that ''ref'' means neither ''reference'' nor ''reputation'', and I can certainly vouch for her trustworthiness!

Don't let your imagination get the better of you .

Well, "ref" I was taking a blind stab at (as I do not generally play TF2); "rep" is definitely as I have described. I thought it might have been a typo.
