In-home streaming - no option to stream
On my client, I see my list of games I have on my Host pc, but the only option it gives me is to install.... not to stream. In the stream settings. Both PC's say they are connected to each other. Both PC's are Windows, Host is Win7, client is win8 (laptop). On the host, in the settings (in-home streaming), I see "Hosting is not currently supported on this platform". Well, what is the requirements? Cause its Win7, and has "ok" video card (5670). What am I missing to get this to work. Sounds like the solution to gaming on my couch that I've been looking for.

exactly, there is no stream button on the client, only a install or (after installing), a play button. So, something with my Host is the problem..... i just can't find the requirements detailed. I just updated to the most recent video driver for the 5670, and still , steam say that "hosting is not currently supported on this platform". There should be a button for advanced options that doesn't show up.

It did that for me until I went on both computers and went into Steam>Settings>Home Streaming (I actually think it finally successfully connected for me at this point btw) and then set the advanced settings for host and client computers. It sounds a pain but was actually a quick one time deal.

Hope this possibly helps

Sorry for the necro, but does this still happen? I had the same situation occur and I've updated both PCs steam clients and graphics card drivers. I also played around with Firewall settings, AV settings went in and out of the IHS Settings turned it off and back on, etc. It was working great and then I did an update and now nothing. I'm down for any suggestions. Thanks!

I just happen to be up and am most likely about to sound completely stupid but... hey man did you check to see if you click the arrow next to install or play on the game page in your library if it gives you the option to switch to stream?

Wow I read that back it sounds so dumb. Yet...... I have heard worse so.. yea I will put it up I guess. This is what happens when you drink and pay attention to updates btw. :)

There is no arrow next to install/play. It's really strange as I had this working a week ago then something broke. I had my tower PC I want to stream from running on wifi and streaming to my laptop which is also on wifi and it was working. I then moved my tower to a different room where I could plug it into my router (I figured hey this should elimante any of those "slow network" messages) and then it stopped working. I think I also ran a Steam update on both computers and made sure they were both the same version and they both have in-home streaming enabled and they still don't appear on the list. I have an ASUS RT-N66U dual-band router and I've tried using both the 2.4ghz band and the 5ghz band. I also unplugged my tower from the router and connected it via wifi again on the same band as the laptop and no dice. I'm at the point where I am considering uninstalling steam and reinstalling it to see if that does something for me. I did try turning off my windows firewall on both computers and puting my Avast in silent/gaming mode and nothing. It is just so strange to me and feels like there has to be something silly (like the drop down to stream) that I am missing. Thanks for the response and let me know if you have any other ideas.

To fix this I just restarted steam on both computers.

Has to be on the same subnet as well on LAN (or on the same VPN)
I had to change my client option to "Fast" vs "Balanced" or "Beautiful". Setting it to "Fast" made it work, I was using a slower laptop as a client.

Go to Steam ~ Settings ~ Remote Play. Make sure Computers & Devices lists the computer that your game is installed on. If it does not say "Connected" for that computer, toggle the "Enable Remote Play" option off then back on. After doing that, the Stream option appeared for me.
