I'm having the exact same problem as OP. My instincts tell me it's a false positive. I'll be restoring steam.exe from the quarantine so i can get back to what's important--playing dark souls
just disable it blocking the steam files all together. and seriously get a better security system
The reality: ZA, like many other products, quarantined and did not delete steam.exe. The interface clearly shows 'x files quarantined'. The problem was that after restoring it, ZA also must allow FARFLI.GA or steam will be quarantined. Again. So you must allow ALL instances of a given malware when allowing a single file. Not optimal, but perhaps there's more granular control in the full version. Steam ran fine. --->
see scan report at:

Kaspersky also misdetects this rather old piece of malware. (out of 53 current scanners). So, just similar string patterns. Not a world-ender. Restore, scan, play.
Same problem with ZoneAlarm. :/
Same problem with ZoneAlarm here, had to disable anti-virus.
Currently herdprotect is reporting: the latest steam.exe has been pinged by 42 out 68 Virus scanners. Wonder if someone has slipped in something?
I had this same problem yesterday and the problem is fixed by now. Can you people please stop crying about how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ZA or any other anti vir is? Even these people can make programming mistakes and usually they're fixed in a rather short time. Got no problems anymore.
