Source Engine Bluescreen
I couldn't figure out where to really put this but, basically I've had this weird issue with specifically source engine games recently and I've found nothing about it anywhere else.

Basically, one night I opened HL: source and it blue screened my pc, which I brushed off because it's a broken game anyways. However, every time after that, after my pc goes to sleep mode and I log back in, it does the same thing for every source game.

Anyone know what this could be? I've been playing source engine for a while now and this only started like 2 days ago.

Well my thought is there's something wrong with your system. Millions of people run source engine games all the time without issues, let alone blue screens.

OS'es get corrupted. Hardware fails.

I don't think you're going to find much that confirms that Source games are the cause,. The games blue screening is almost certainly a symptom. Especially since it just started happening and it's not like all source games just got updated recently...

Have you made any hardware changes lately?

Source did not bluescreen your computer. But you should definitely look at your system very closely as Snakub suggests. Programs might run on broken parts of a drive, dlls get misplaced or broken, but generally speaking software only shows off a problem, they're a symptom rather than the issue particularly if hardware is about to fail. Which, many times, is what happens if you're blue screening.

Here's another thing that I forgot to mention, opening the game works after I reboot the pc and it runs perfectly fine until the next time it goes to sleep.

In terms of changes, I fixed my bootmanager, but that's all major changes recently

Going to sleep = steam breaks.

Steam does not do well with hibernation mode. Turn it off before letting your computer sleep.

games cannot bluescreen your systems

your system is screwed up thats why it bluescreened

if you bsod then the event viewer will show you the dll that caused the crash

Start looking there

(yeah I was going to edit my post to add: 'but you really should fix your computer overall'... for that reason)

my computer is fine overall, I'll probably just verify my source engine games

Once more from the top:

Games and programs *do not* do that.

Failing hardware and conflicting settings might. Do as Satoru suggests, because it won't get better without investigation.

Alright, well I looked at the event log and it didn't tell me much, relating to anything with games, there's nothing from that time. All it says is "The previous system shutdown at 5:09:08 PM on ‎10/‎15/‎2021 was unexpected."

It doesn't give me any details past that

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
