If I uninstall games whose save files are stored in "userdata", will the local save files in my computer be retained?
I'm wanting to uninstall some Steam games to free up space on my hard-drive. When I've uninstalled games in past, they often store their save files in My Documents, so those haven't been lost when I've "deleted local content". However, I'm now wanting to uninstall some games (Batman: Arkham Origins and Tomb Raider 2013) that keep their save files in Steam>userdata>Steam ID number>game ID number.

When I tell Steam to "delete local content", will it hunt out the files in userdata and delete those as well? Or does it only delete the game files that are in Steam>steamapps>common?

(Side Question: What about when you uninstall the few games that actually store their save files in steamapps>common, e.g. Half-Life 2?)

I apologise that this has no doubt been asked many times, but my Google searches only brought up years old questions, with inconclusive answers. Perhaps Steam's folder organisation behaviours have changed a bit since then too.

Also, I am aware that lots of games have saves synced with Steam Cloud, but I don't necessarily trust that, and want to know how the local files on my computer are affected.

Thanks.

Wasn't sure, so I tested

Just tried uninstalling Black Mesa.
The userdata folder is still intact.

C:\Steam\userdata\40454810\362890\remote

It has the remotecache.vdf; as well as the config file inside the cfg -folder. (Just like how it was pre-removal.)

EDIT: And yes, the game uses Steam Cloud; its save files are stored inside the game folder itself though thus they're not there.

Well I went and made copies of my two games' folders in userdata, then uninstalled them in Steam. The folders seem to have remained, so I guess my saves are still intact for when I next play those games.

I guess the userdata folder is not affected when you uninstall Steam games, but I guess making backups is always a good idea.
