those cables have no data lines in them, they do not allow you to play through it, you must have a wireless receiver.
this is the play/charge kit, it does not turn a wireless controller into a wired controller

having the same problem
it won't recognize it long enough to do anything with it, it just disconnects it (usb)
Well those are junk anyways and do not work the same as a Microsoft one.
This guy also replied to another similar discussion a few months ago and nailed it.
Make sure that you unplug your controller, uninstall the device from device manager, restart the computer (with controller unplugged), then your comp will automatically DL the driver again and then plug in your controller at the very end of the process.
That's the only thing that worked on mine.
However, when a device has been installed before in your OS, all that gets stored in your WinOS Registry; each instance of a device install gets a unique ID attached to that, so the OS can ultimate keep track of multiple hardware of the same product ID, or instance of being installed. Say for example you have multiple DVDRW Drives all of the same brand+model+revision; they would all have the same exact Product ID as a Device; however they will get logged in your Device Manager and Registry as a slightly different Unique ID (VID + PID) so the OS can tell them apart.
I can help with this, if you'd like, you can add me if you need help.
