wired xbox 360 controller won't work on PC
Hello! I have a very similar problem to this user https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/648814842895900344/?l=polish.
I tried plugging in my xbox 360 wired controller to my PC, I have Windows 10. Normally it should just install the drivers automatically but whenever I plug in my controller it flashes green for a sec and says it doesn't recognize it. I contacted xbox support and downloaded Windows 7 drivers but nothing works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

is it truly an wired control or are you using a charge and play cable.

those cables have no data lines in them, they do not allow you to play through it, you must have a wireless receiver.

The Microsoft Controller Drivers for 360/XboxOne devices are on Windows Updates. Do a manual check with the Controller plugged in and see if it's showing Updates for that.

It's a normal wired controller. I tried updating it, still doesn't work. :(

try it on another pc

this is the play/charge kit, it does not turn a wireless controller into a wired controller

Tried it on my brother's PC, he recently updated to windows 10 as well. Could it be the controller?

it's not the controller, it's windows 10. I have a rock candy xbox 360 controller and had some problems on windows 7 until i plugged it into the back. Since Windows 10,
having the same problem
it won't recognize it long enough to do anything with it, it just disconnects it (usb)

Well those are junk anyways and do not work the same as a Microsoft one.

This guy also replied to another similar discussion a few months ago and nailed it.

Make sure that you unplug your controller, uninstall the device from device manager, restart the computer (with controller unplugged), then your comp will automatically DL the driver again and then plug in your controller at the very end of the process.

That's the only thing that worked on mine.

Well if the Device refuses to show up when plugged in, that is a whole other issue. This can happen though, such as after having done an OS Upgrade. Even going from Win10 1511 to 1607 has many now trying to figure out what to do regarding reinstalling their Controllers, as they seem to have disappeared.

However, when a device has been installed before in your OS, all that gets stored in your WinOS Registry; each instance of a device install gets a unique ID attached to that, so the OS can ultimate keep track of multiple hardware of the same product ID, or instance of being installed. Say for example you have multiple DVDRW Drives all of the same brand+model+revision; they would all have the same exact Product ID as a Device; however they will get logged in your Device Manager and Registry as a slightly different Unique ID (VID + PID) so the OS can tell them apart.

I can help with this, if you'd like, you can add me if you need help.
