Windows 10 + Steam = Memory leak ?

I recently have update my laptop to win 10 with no issue so far at least this is what I thought. Today after I have left my PC open the hole day I open the task manager and it was showing me that in idle my pc was using 4.4GB out of 6 GB of ram. So I closed Steam and it dropped to 2.2GB. So what is the deal here ? Why steam is using so much ram on windows 10?

had Steam running for days on W10. It's using a tad less mem than 8.1 did. ~120MB

The issue is in your computer, probably malware attaching itself to the in-game browser. You will need to find it, clean it out and take appropriate precautions in the future.

Now that is active the client is using 100 mb and the web helpers max 56 mb

I also have avast and it haven't found any malware so far plus I'm not doing many crazy things in my pc

well, you are the only person in a position to find out what it is...

try SpyBot, search and destroy and malware bytes (in safe mode with networking).

steam will use more ram when downloading updates for itself or games

It can also occur when u've been using the Steam Client Browser; it loves to suck RAM.
Of course downloading updates will hog the RAM until all that is over/done with.
Restarting it every once in a while helps resolve all that if for some reason the excess RAM isn't released back, which I have seen have a few times.

But generally if u run Steam Client and u aren't doing much and it's not downloading, etc. Rarely should be use very much RAM. If so then I'd say u have other issues on the system, malicious things can cause apps running in RAM to do all sorts of odd behavior.

My steam is 42 meg. I never use Steam Client Browser its not a secure browser no wonder why people get There accounts hijack, I use Firefox instead of steam browser on steam web site.

Yes TBH I feel it is best practice to avoid the browser within Steam Client and Big Picture.
I stick to using the Client for purchases, Friends, and my Games; thats about it.

I may bring up certain safe sites within that browser when in-game, using Steam Overlay. But very few.

Steam Community and the other parts of Steam, I use web browser with good security practices. Overall it's a non-issue using the Steam Browser for any parts of the Steam sites; but I would never bring up 3rd party sites in it, or click Link Shorteners, etc.

Plus by sticking to using mostly your web browser, clearing temp file junk is non-issue. With Steam Browser, there are a few places it stores those temp browser files, which if u want to free up space needs to be manually cleared out when desired.
