Steam won't run at Windows startup (Windows 10)
Steam does not run in my taskbar when logging in to Windows 10, even though it's set to do so under Interface > "Run Steam when my computer starts".
I can see the Steam bootstrapper is running according to Windows taskmanager but nothing is shown.
I already tried uninstalling Steam, wiping the entire Steam folder and reinstalling it. It didn't help.
It even runs as administrator as some games I have requires that to work properly.

Windows opens up Steam with the -silent launch parameter if you use that method.

Rather add Steam's shortcut to the Startup -folder without the box ticked.

Thanks Teutep, I'll give that a try and report back :)

I tried doing as you suggested Teutep.
I set Steam it self NOT to start with Windows and verified it was gone from the "Startup" section in the TaskManager.
Added a shortcut to Startup with the target set to "Steam.exe -silent" and verified it was in the "Startup" section in the TaskManager.
Rebooted the PC.
The Steam bootstrapper starts up, but still nothing in the notifications area.
If I manually click the same shortcut then it starts...

I don't get it...

Don't set the -silent to the launch parameter and see if the Steam -client pops up at least.

My point was that Windows does that when you tick the box on Steam; which is why it doesn't pop up. (On Windows 7 it does show up in the notifications area in the bottom right though with the parameter.)

oh, but won't it start with the windows open than? I just want it to run in the notification area on boot.

don't mind my misspellings :)
I ment, I don't want the main window to open on boot...

Yup, it would.

Hmm, not sure why it doesn't show up there though. How's the Notifications Area Icons -menu for you? Does it have 'Show icon and notifications' on Steam ?
SnowmanDK Aug 13, 2015 @ 2:21pm
Notifications area is set to show all icons, and all other icons ARE shown. Just not Steams.

Seems like no one can explain this...

You had windows 8/7 premium before updating to windows 10? I updated yesterday having windows 8 pro and it works just fine.

I used Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and there Steam loaded correctly on boot.
Now I use Windows 10 Pro x64 then it doesn't work correctly.

It might not be the best solution, but I guess it gives a hint to what is going wrong.
Using "Startup Delayer" to delay the loading of the Steam client it now runs as it's supposed to during boot. I just set it to Automatic delay, and left default values as they were.
I assume, as my entire PC is running on SSD's, that it boots too fast for needed stuff to be loaded before Steam tries to load.

Hi folks,
for me works:
  • Windows key and R as soon as your desktop appears.
  • Type in services.msc in the Run box and hit the Enter key.
  • Look at the list of services and search for the steamservice
  • simply Right-Click , Open them and then change their Settings from Default – to Delayed Start. Then save and reboot the system.

Latest build of Windows 10 seems to have fixed all issues I had in regards to startup.
