Mic keeps cutting out in voice chat
My headset mic (g930) continues to cut out during steam voice chat. In games and other voice applications it works just fine. Only a few days ago did it begin to cut out and I checked the windows settings for it, looked up possible answers on the internet, did the reccomendations but to no avail. I would like to fix this to talk to my friends and family. Any ideas?

Does the game you are trying to use the mic with have a voice test option? If it does, and you can hear yourself without the sound cutting out, then my first thought would be a network issue.

it's not in game, it's the steam voice chat. Whether I'm in game or not doesn't seem to matter. And no, I cannot hear myself cut out. It is also not a network issue because my brother is on the same network and talks in the voice chat and it is fine. So I am stumped haha

I'm having the same issue, and it's extremely annoying. I hear all my friends just fine and they barely catch a word I say. It ONLY happens in steam voice chat. Anyone have a fix?

my friend has the same problem. can't hear him most of the time , not a network issue his dl and upload are faster than mine . might be a headset compatibility issue, have any of you tried a different headset or mic? uncle updog try your brothers mic on your pc . my friend is going to buy a new headset right now to see if im right. ill update this with the results

Yeah even when I'm not in a game, my friend's mic keeps stuttering for me and yet he hears himself fine I guess :steamfacepalm:

this is happening to me too, i contacted the brand of my laptop and they told me that the headphone jack only supported two ring headsets, which meant that my nice headset (hyperx cloud stinger) and most other headsets arent compatible with my laptop... i dont know w fix yet but i know its the issue

So are we gonna get an actual answer or are more people just going to repeat the problem?.-.

I know what is causing it but I don't know how to fix it. It happens when your gain on the mic is not up high enough, steam automatically cuts it off if its low enough, but there doesn't seem to be a way to decrease the value at which steam cuts off the input of the mic.

My friend was having the same issue and he just fixed by changing the Voice Transmission Threshold to not be on the high setting. Now I can hear him fine. Look for that setting and change it to any other, medium or off, and hopefully that solves it for some of you.
