Can't play online with my wireless connection
So my router is in my basement and my computer is in my room. I have a wireless adapter and its pretty powerful because normally I can get a pretty good internet speed (can watch 1080P videos no probem, watch high quality livestreams with few interruptions, and most importantly very few gaming related issues). But for the last week I've been having an issue with my internet. Whenever I start up a game, my connection to Steam will die. In the bottom it will display NO CONNECTION and I will be set in offline mode. My internet is still fine, although a bit slower, but the problem is I can't play any online games. I tried connecting a ethernet cable to a repeater downstairs to run some tests and I was able to play just fine, so it's only the wireless adapter that has this problem. My confusion is why? It's not much slower than the ethernet connection, but it's as though it can't do multiple things with the internet at once. Does anybody know what the issue is here? I need to have a wireless connection because I can't keep this ethernet running from my room to downstairs forever. Please help!

Maybe your wireless adapter can't cope with the simultaneous connections. Try to reduce the pings per minute in the Steam client settings.

Nope, I tried lowering it all the way to 250, as low as it would go, and GTA V still was having issues connecting as well as really any of my games.

Get out of your basement and get outside lol... as for your connection i bet it's because you are in a basement or you really have a lousy provider!

Umm I said my computer was in my room, my router is in my basement.
It might depend upon your home construction. I have my DSL gateway in the basement and usually have no problems with wireless desktop PC on main floor or my phone or laptop on 2nd floor.

But sometimes placement is everything. I noticed years ago when still using wireless-b that moving my laptop an inch or two one way or the other made a significant difference in signal strength. And spring last year I was having some DSL issues and I apparently moved my gateway some while checking it out. But even after DSL was fixed it still seemed slow. I discovered that my wireless speed was only 1 Mbps. I moved the DSL gateway a few inches back to where it was and my wireless speed was then 54 Mbps (the DSL itself is 5.1 Mbps actual dl speed).

But I have a 105 yr old house with steam heat and no metal ductwork. A coworker with a relatively new ranch home could not get a wireless signal in their kitchen right above where their router was in basement office.

So your issue could be a combination of building construction and wireless device position.

I know i'm almost 3 years late (this is for people having the problem now). I had the same ploblem about a year ago. I just deleted steam and reinstalled it. I think there is an another way by deleting a file or something, but I'm not sure.
