Screen Tearing
Hi, I'm getting massive screen tearing in Steam. Not in games, just in the the steam program itself. I have a i7-4790K, 16GB RAM, 2x EVGA GTX 970s. Happens on either monitor I have. I've tried turning on Triple Buffer and VSync for steam.exe and steamservice.exe with no luck. Any ideas?

VSync can't work if the program is a "Windowed Mode" program.

Screen-tearing where? The Client is just a web browser / downloader for the most part so how is screen tearing an issue for this? What part of Steam do u have this issue?

I'm having the issue in the client. Anywhere in the client, if I scroll at all, the screen tears.
Try Steam > Settings > Disable DirectWrite for Fonts; that seems to smooth it out quite a bit.
Nope, no change.
Having the same issue here, I just replaced my 780 slis today for 980ti sli I have also upgraded to windows10, everything else seems to be running smooth other than this screen tearing when scrolling up and down in the steam client....any suggestions?

I have tried beta program and forcing vsync in ncc, no joy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit. I did not experience this issue this morning with my 780s and windows 8.1

Probably because your NVIDIA Driver is never actually getting installed.
Do a run of DXDIAG in Win10 and see if it says "Basic Display Driver" for your GPU.

Overall, VSync has no effect at the Desktop level; that is only for DirectX/OpenGL apps.

Thanks for the help m8 but the first thing I did after upgrading then booting my PC was reinstall all necessary drivers etc....stiil checked just incase. The tearing still remains only in steam...by no means a big deal, just a bit puzzling.
Same thing for me! I had a 6850, upgrated to gtx 960 and only in steam client, when scrolling I see a little tearing, towards the bottom, where the color of the background changes to black on so on.

dxdiag says all good...
Try a Steam Skin then please.
I've always used one, and never had such issues; regardless of GPU or OS

Just tryed a skin and the screen tearing is still there... thanks for the suggestion, but no joy. Cant believe the issue is still there after all this time, iv got used to it now but it does get annoying when people keep asking "what are those lines on the screen"

Get with it Steam/Nvidia

Then it is your system; never seen that. It's your drivers or something.
Only time it happens it when no dedicated GPU driver installed.

When you using Steam, use web-browser. Just use Steam Client for your games.

I cant see how it can be my system when 1, Im not the only one having the issue(reported in this forum and others) and 2, if you see my earlier posts Iv had good a opportunity to test.
Had no issues with tearing on my 780 sli windows 8.1 pc, yet Im still having tearing issues from day 1 with windows 10 and my 980ti sli...all i did was swap out the cards(clean install of all necessary drivers) and update to win10.

I believe it is some issue with sli and windows 10 as the tearing disappears if I disable sli in NCC.
same here
16gb ram, i7 4790k, gtx980 (non sli)

everything is fine, just in steam there is an ugly screen tearing

on my old system this issue has not occured. (i7 860(?), 4gb ram, gtx260)

And the same over here since the last update of my GraCa drivers. And got also some tearing in firefox, but around the time i also installed a new fox version. (Changed something options in firefox and after that it smoothes out a bit). Short after that there was also another fox update which finished some other problems i got since the update. But the steam client is still tearing.
Same here.... but i blame NVIIDIA lol, just replaced my radeon 7970 with a GTX 980ti hybrid and for one the drivers where a total mess to install, and two it struggles with Firefox and Steam, i fixed FIrefox by upgrading to 64bit version but Steam is still so sad, im going to try dumping all the display drivers again and re-installing, perhaps they were crufted in the buggy install lol.
