need help understanding download speeds
So yesterday I bought the xbox one master chief collection bundle and the game is roughly 65 GB or something, so I feared it would take like 3 days to download, but according to my xbox one my download speed was around 25 mb a second and only rarely went to around 10 so i downloaded it in like 5 hours, but on steam my download speed is only like 2 mb a second, how can there be such a difference. Also there was no change in network usage like its nots like when I go on steam and download games when 4 other family members are on netflix or something.

tldr xbox one downloads games fast, steam doesn't wtf

I have the exact opposite experience. Steam downloads extremely fast, Xbox is excruciatingly slow. In any event. Try choosing a different download region.

Actually, something is up anyways. 10 megabytes a second = 600 megabytes a minute = 36000 megabytes an hour. You'd have downloaded more than half the game in the first hour even at 10 MB per second. At 25 megabytes per second it wouldn't have even taken an hour.

On the other hand, 25 megabits a second would take about 6 hours, much closer to what you experienced.

Let's start off with your ISP connection. What do you have (fiber, cable, DSL, business Ethernet, etc.) and how fast does the ISP say it should run?

There's a difference between megabit and megabyte. Most confusions stem from that difference.

ah so thats what it was but that still doesnt explain why my xbox downloads faster then steam, my wifi adapter on my computer can withastand 100 megabits a second.

Well, this can have a plethora of reasons. I personally wouldn't care if I were you.

megabit vs megabyte. MB/s vs Mb/s You still dont get it.

You can have a 100Mb connection and download at approx 10MB/s. To download at 100MB/s you need something approximately 10 times faster.

oh yea meant to put 100 megabyte*

a 100mb connection will get around 10 to 12 mb a sec download. Xbox will report it as 100 and steam as 10. They are the same thing.

The wifi adaptor may be able to handle that speed, but that doesn't mean the ISP is PROVIDING that speed.

That's why people keep saying do speedtests and show them.

Yeah thats even assuming he has a 100mb connection to start with. He is probably just reporting his wifi card. :D From his speed test he probably has a 10mb connection at best.
