[GUIDE] Change library icon of a STEAM game
Most think, it is impossible to change the icon of a Steam game in the library.
This is true, considering the limited possibilities that Valve provides us with.

However, it is possible to change the icon via a detour.
Open the folder ...\STEAM\appcache\librarycache and search for the icon file using the AppID of the game.
This file has the following formatting: AppId_icon.jpg
Why Valve uses jpg's at this point is beyond me, but why do something the way it's been done for decades when you can do it differently.

Shutdown the Steam Client (STEAM.EXE -shutdown) and replace the icon with an icon of your choice.
To reduce memory and loading time the icon should not exceed a resolution of 32x32 pixels.

The only important thing is, it must be a JPG file (At least in appearance).
Alternatively you can use ICO or PNG graphics, but you just have to rename the file to JPG.

As an example:
If you want to use a nice asteroid for the game "The Dig" (AppID 6040), then you look for a nice picture of the asteroid Bennu from the view of the Nasa probe "Osiris Rex" on the NASA page or with the help of a search engine.

Make a nice template of the picture in a resolution of 256x256 and create a Windows icon file with the name "6040_icon.ico" with "Greenfish Icon Editor Pro Portable".
Rename "6040_icon.ICO" to "6040_icon.JPG" and copy it to ...\STEAM\appcache\librarycache

Open the Steam client and enjoy the little fuzzy icon in your library.
If you can't really see the difference now, you've done something wrong or get a pocket microscope.
Resistance is useless!
