i appreciate your caution but i'm very sure theres no remote access going on with my pc. i live in a house alone. no relatives pulling some joke lol. have also tried to see in safe mode but when i return to normal windows again the games are back. although the cause would be nice to discover, the solution may just be to format the harddrive. hardly a good fix though if i had no other room to back up my stuff onto. and what if it happens again?
windows check disk
and dism repair and SFC
( google them cmd )
dont forget you might want to change disk as proof of faulth finding.
now you are in getting it to stop, not what cause this thats harddisk brand department and ( not even sure they have seen such, but thry might have depend on broken header just like FAT in the past could do )
but then you have new disk try the FULL Format cmd per sector, ( what if you had one of them very old error table screwup, we had in FAT days. ( dont forget i have not seen such on NTFS ever )
and you need extra disk now to backup and who knows what swap with new disk so you can can zero every sector on that disk + check branddisk support for firmware upgrade or what ever app tool they have.
if that dont work terminiat system ( start over ) even i will not trust a system that dont delete my stuff then i told it to.
i bet every tech person will do same.
ps.
im pretty sure they want that disk to test for stability things dont added up here, and now you are over in production of it, and as user you dont want to go there. you need to be a geek to find that interresting. we other simple buy new disk and move on. no matter if this is warranty or not.
just so you get as IT we find such interresting but common you dont want to know i had never had use for my knoiwledge there other then how it works.
point is you need to work with such. i dont
im not want to offender ppl that work with it, they are needed, but as user of them, it stop there.
sfc scannow returns the disk is fine. i havent tried dism yet actually thanks for reminding me of that.
in windows disk mgmt, trying to format the harddrive also makes the program freeze up until i force quit.
swapped to my linux laptop, using gparted and parted cmd both return errors. wont apply the creation of a new partition table because of an unlabeled disk. well duh im trying to create a label for it right now. little more info with parted, says changes won't apply because the kernel is in use.
its so strange to me because every game on that harddrive runs perfectly fine (i only have steam games on it, no sketchy ones) but ANY operations including moving, copying, deleting, even fricken formatting just slows everything down and freezes.
i guess thats why i thought there was no problems with the drive at all until this started happening.
right now im using wipe on linux to unrecoverably delete the entire partition. its taking its time, we'll see how that goes.
Normaly you will discard disk then such is seen, but if they error dont expand then it should be possible to lock them off with ( full format and sector checking, but do it on a pc you dont need, it will take a long time.
but most will just save data if possible and rest is seen as corrupted files,
you dont want bit error in picture and other files so think before move things around on the disk or its partitions even. again you should know this already, but we are are back at, we dont mind read here, and who said its in tech IT you work with, seen plenty of even higher educated IT ppl they dont know the nuts and bolts on the floor and they dont need to.
ask if you need help but atm, you solve the with why. now you have to deal with it.
gl with it.
ps.
and that disk is not trust worthy, maybe ever only for games ( and maybe not even that if its a game you care about. ) see it as dump test game from the past. lol ( joke not allowed on steam. )
