Uninstalled games keep coming back
i've uninstalled like 3 different games from my external to free up space. Each time i restart the pc or unplug/replug the drive, the game folders are magically just back again, and taking up all the space. ive permanently recycled them multiple times and even tried various programs that offer file deleting, including using command line rmdir. This is vexing me so bad lol why is it even doing that?

Are you the only one at that pc, i mean multi account user on same pc can see other have or own same game, then it can look like that.

Change PW as extra security so there is no other that know it.

just so you know uninstal mean something have access to that pc or use same steam account or think its hes account. or yuo use hes account and is nbot on own account.
its rare but have been seen befor go ahead ask steam support if thats the case, and if you are 2 brothers that once shared same account then its a issue who is the owner. ( you need to sort this out before it get a family issue )

yep, ive unplugged and replugged it back in multiple times. ive tried to uninstall one game about 5 different times and each time all the files just keep coming back. ive tried it with every game that i have on the drive and they all do the same thing. in steam settings theres not really anything that helps but i have cleared download cache too. im THIS close to just formatting the whole thing and not letting steam have it again

yes, im the only one on my PC and i dont share my account with anyone, nor any family sharing on my games. i have 2FA active on my account too. i also opened a ticket with steam and they straight up said they dont have a fix for this, and asked me to talk to a local PC technician. lol as if.

Atleast we are agree with steam support, that its odd and should not happend, to even suggest abckup restore isself wihtout and user access or script doing is way off, just like a public pc that reset itself back to next pc user that use it.

to a privat user you dont say things like that, so you see its possible, but not the way you explan it, and there is also "Shadow Copy Service or VSS." shadow restoreration, and even that is something most know its on.

well i have no other crazy ideas.

it only get more crazy after this , NAS server that restore delete content, and i bet you can see it get further and further out of normal procedur.

Here's a checklist of some improbable causes:
  1. Windows "Remote Desktop" enabled?
  2. Using Steam Link software?
  3. Microsoft Teams?
  4. Windows System Restore?
  5. Permitted some unsolicited telephone or internet Tech claiming to be Microsoft help fix your slow PC?

It is a perplexing problem to say the least.

Iceira, I vote also that OneDrive or some similar cloud service may be the culprit.

yeah bu you know how it is, no hands on and NO we dont want to have it, its over to help random ppl remote, i only do that to ppl i play with a trust factor most be made.

but either way OP has something to check up on, but we are also go more and more down the road with worst possible suggestion after this.

No to all these on the checklist, i dont have any cloud drive syncing programs going on either. I've got a degree in IT so im pretty computer-smart. The drive that its happening to is a bit janky though to be honest, it freezes up on me a lot so after backing up all my files to a new internal drive i'll be formatting it and seeing if the drive still displays abnormal behaviour. but you guys are right in your bewilderment of why on earth this is happening, it definitely shouldnt be doing that at all.

Sense you are in IT, then take step to unplug cable, its a test and only have pc on then you are there with cable, i mean im sure you know this dark path and i dont want to make other paranoid

You might want to unplug cable and powercord, so you know its only you if you dont have eye on pc 24/7, man i dont want to explan this, it more what cause this and by what script ro remote access or ppl moke you, but i bet you are already there yourself.

Who has access to house and building, dont have a brother that make a joke on you, thats my point here, sure we can all laugh at it, if it is.

and you dont have raid with restore image, i mean even suggest this is way off then you are in IT.
snap image, as i said and above user point out should not happend.

and we are out of idea's

if you reset OS because you had enough of this BS , nake sure noone can see it even though building window,

have you also tried safeboot mode and turn off apps while testing for whatever cause this.

all this should not be need to be explan, but we have no clue if you are a master or new educated person, and again some can read a book and master it all. IT is funny that way.

yep, these problems are exactly the same as mine lol. i have multiple steam library folders on different drives that i have, but each is for different games. i've tried the thing about deleting the app manifest files, but the games still came back even after that. no other pc's are linked to mine, not even laptop. its a puzzle to me
