How to avoid getting scammed!

I have recently started playing cs:go a lot lately, and during the time that I have been playing (200 hours), I have come across 3 scam attempts for my items. Although my steam inventory is not the most expensive, it is still vast and filled with some expensive items. If you are like me or just want some knowledge on the matter, I have listed below, 5 main tips to avoid being scammed or hacked.

Tip 1: would be, is to keep your inventory to friends only, or even private if you want for the extra security. If a scammer sees expensive items in your inventory, he/she will target you.

Tip 2: will include a little bit of knowledge and memory, as well as some common sense. If a member of the steam community tries to add you as a friend and their profile brand new, no games, nothing, take extra precaution when dealing with them, until you can trust them. (This does not mean, treat new players with disrespect and despise the new members of our community.) It means to take extra precaution if they try to send you unknown links or trade offers.

Tip 3: If a player sends you a link, always ask for its direction and always check the last few words at the end of the link. If someone sends you a link and it looks like this. (Hey, check out my new cs:go skin www.somemumbojumbo.jpg.exe Never click on it. It will direct you towards a link that downloads what ever the scammer/hacker wishes for you to download and this can include anything as serious as bank fraud and theft. (If you use any bank credentials within your computer) Always check the last few words of the link and make sure it is secure. I even suggest running the link through this website, which will check it through multiple anti-virus and protection programs without you even having to click in it. ( http://www.urlvoid.com )

Tip 4: Commonly, when a steam trade is going on and a player wishes to trade with you, you may even get the odd person who wants you to use a middle man. This is fake and I assure you it always will be. For small trades that are $1 - $10 each, it may very well be legit. But why rely on a person you have never met to hold your expensive items and hope that he is honest? when you can rely on the steam trade itself. Steam trading is more reliable than any other middle man or alternate option (Unless you are dealing with a paypal transaction, which I will cover next.) If they ask for you to send your items to a middle man, I say opt out and ask for a direct trade, if they refuse or give an excuse to leave. Report them for scamming via their steam profile.

Tip 5: Paypal transactions, although Paypal is a highly reliable funds transfer website/business. You can still get scammed via the players. It is recommended to avoid any trades or transactions like this, unless they are your friends or well known people and can be trusted.

I am sure I have plenty more tips to add as the days go on, but as for now, here are my top 5 tips on avoiding scammers. This is coming from an expert in computer design and program making. Cheers mate, I just want to help those that need it and help everyone avoid being scammed. I know what it feels like. (When I was younger, I played RuneScape a lot and got scammed for a load of items within there.) This is real money and items that actual contain an actual value of cash. So the stakes have risen and I want to make sure no one loses it.

Another link that can provide helpful information. But, I am directing my discussion from a user to another user base system. THe link you have provided is from steam to user. Sometimes, the explination of a user is a lot more clear, understandable and can be discussed further with ease. Where as the steam article can provide useful information, it can still be confusing and not as informative at times.

As well as most users checking up through here more frequently.
