Concerned about email from steam support.
Got an email from steam to my primary email adress.

the thing is, I didn't register for steam using this email adress, I used an older one I still keep as a secondary. all my other responses and emails from steam/steam support have gone to the older email. also the IP adress is not anywhere near me.

I have already changed both my email account passwords, even though they would need phone verification codes from our house landline. It does seem they used the older steam support system to request this, as I do have an account with that with the email in question. I logged in, changed my password and my final question is:

assuming I use different passwords containing random strings of alphabetical (lower and upper) numerical, punctuation, and other symbols (I do) for everything, what else can I do at this point to protect myself? I've got steam gaurd, 2-step, everything I can enabled, and use passwords that put the average person's single same pass for everything to shame, is there anything else I can do? I've spent almost $50k+ on my steam games, items, gifts for others, etc over the past 8 years and these attempts seem to happen more and more frequently the past 3 years.

is there anything else I can do? I don't write down my passwords in any physical location because that would be idiotic, I use antiviral software and latest browser (no java). I'm hoping the worst will never happen, but every other day someone tries (and fails) to login to one of my gmail accounts. it's really making me paranoid.

I linked it. it's a password reset request. I censored out the reset code.
Then you must have made an account with that email?

Someone maybe just mismatched the names.....
Do you use the steam authentication app?

I've covered that in the post. I'm also not using any mobile apps. that would be a terrible failure point if you loose your phone. my question is simply if there is any further safegaurds I can take.
This email should show that no one can just reset your password.

I would recommend to remove descriptions of your account and games in the opening post.

I asked about the mobile app, because lately some people got the same email.... And some had in common that they used that app.

...? what good would that do, it's a public profile, anyone could rightclick my name and see anyways. Also 1.3k games isnt that much anymore (there's a few accounts by rich people with OCD who own every game on steam, those are not the valve test accounts either), and the items are long gone as you tell from my also public (I think?) inventory. I'm not worried about hackers/scammers smelling blood in the water because they're already targeting me. I'm worried that hopefully I am doing enough to prevent them.

I'm a bit curious. You said that a Steam account is associated with your email, but you don't remember ever making a Steam account with it? Have you tried logging in to Steam using that email? Maybe you made an alt account for something and just forgot about it.

Honestly, other than what you've previously mentioned, I don't see what else you can use to further protect your account.

Please don't mistake me for attempting social engineering here, but I'm a bit curious as to how you're coming up with your passwords. You've stated that they're random strings of letters, numbers, and symbols. Is there a pattern to them so that you can remember them or are you using a password vault so not even you are able to recite your password off the top of your head?
If it's the latter, obviously you should provide a strong easy-to-remember/hard-to-guess password and enable 2-step-authentication for that.

Well, you can generate backup codes should this happen - just keep them in a safe place. If someone breaks into your house, they will have access to your landline and therefore direct access to your security codes.

I have a few mental issues on top of slight high-functioning autism. my memory is superior to most in terms of characters/shapes (I can remember our wifi password off the top of my head even though it's a string of 24 random letters and numbers.) I can't really explain it. I also found out I did have a steam support account (on the old support site, where you had to have two different accounts, a steam account and a steam support account) I logged into that and changed that password too. it does seem like they sent the email to me because someone requested a pass reset through the old support site instead of steam. all you have to do there is enter the steam username and it sends an email.
