Account Purgatory
I hadn't logged on to Steam for years and just got back, so to speak. I have no idea what my password is and the email account I had back when the account was created is long gone. I started a ticket and haven't heard from Steam for several days. I had to create this account to post here and I couldn't even do that until I started a profile. This is ridiculous, I'm not trying to log in to the NSA for crying out loud. All I need is to have Steam change the email address in settings but first they actually have to respond. This account exists only to post here. My original account is stuck in purgatory.

Support can take a few weeks to respond. If you attach proof of ownership to your ticket; the process could go a lot quicker when they do respond in the first instance https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2268-EAFZ-9762
I put in the code for my half life 2 cd on the initial "question", I presume that's enough.

Albeit not officially specified, I believe from what I read around here that a photo of your retail game's CD key along with your ticket number shown on top of it will not hurt either.

Only ridiculous thing here is that you lost your account info *and* losing access to the original email without making sure whatever services you had tied to it weren't change before you lost it.

Support is slow, that's a legitimate complaint, but eventually they'll get to you, all you have to (and can) do is wait.

Also, no one asked you to create a profile to post here. There's nothing anyone here can do for you, all you need to do is wait for the support ticket.
You are very lucky to have gotten a service ticket. I can't even open one because I can't receive their email verification. I have never been so frustrated with a web site. NOT EVEN A PHONE NUMBER!. I am to the point of notifying the state attorney general to see if this is something they would be interested in.
