Help! Non-Steam War Thunder Download Problem

Hey, I downloaded War Thunder from it's official site, but now I want to play it like any game I download on Steam. I read a post about this on Steam Community, saying that I should copy the game file to steamapps\common and start Steam. Then go to shop, find WT click "Play Game". So it should download about 1 GB file. But it doesn't work, it doesn't (I think) recognize the game, it just downloads the whole game. Any help?

Just redownload it off Steam. It'll stop a lot of hassle.
