Steam vs Console?
Steam > Console for days. Does anyone think next gen consoles will effect PC gaming hugely? Thoughts.

Couldn't agree more both consoles and gaming PCs have their pros and cons personally I am really looking forward to the steam box to see if it can help brisge the gap between them

What ive never understood is why people always console exclusives, but almost never PC exclusives

Everything has its pros and cons, so there will be no winner in this "war"

For some reason, it escapes them. Others do not care about PC exclusives so to them, they don't exist.

I prefer pc gaming to console gaming so steam wins
I prefer PC as well. I went from PC to console and now back to PC. Consoles have their benefits when it comes to playing with people who are more casual, but I think PCs win for the dedicated gamers, hands down.

It will affect it a little, but not a huge amount...

I don't see the next generation of consoles doing anything new, so I doubt they will make a difference.

well i think that steam(PC) vs. consol is the reason steam is making the SteamBox

Yep, I agree with the majority of your stuff there, except playing devil's advocate I'll add a couple of contrary ones (which I have metioned already).

Firstly, I disagree with point 3 - some games on PC are dreafully optimised, so the bigger and better your PC is not a guarantee to success (although that's not really the PC's fault).

Point 7 too - strategy games generally do suck on consoles, although it does depend on whether the game can accommodate controllers well. But conversely, racing games on a PC with keyboard/mouse equally suck. Horses for courses.

9. Exclusive on consoles that aren't on PC - no matter how good your PC is, if you haven't got the game, then you haven't got the game.
10. Ease of use. Although Steam has improved this issue immeasurably, there still remains the problem that buying a PC game can result in trawling through troubleshooting posts and fiddling with things - it is still a little bit of a gamble. Consoles don't have this.

Last point, being technically superior is no guarantee of great gameplay - graphics, framerate, etc? Sure, but I'm a firm believer in a console or computer being a means to an end - it doesn't matter how good it looks or performs if the games involved are good.

Pretty much this right here, I see both consoles and PC's for their own merits, I don't really see one as being better than the other, both have their places in gaming and always will, what i don't udnerstand however is when people try to assert their opinion on others akin to some sort of fact that PC's are better than consoles in every other way when really the industry, the market and other facts speak volumes differently than what those that stick with only one platform tend to claim.

I've gamed on so many consoles and few PC's during my lifetime to be semi comfortable with both, my only problem though is I'm not overly fond of trouble shooting on the PC along with having already poured money into a new build only to find the new build isn't as good and more money will have to be sunk in to yet again try to attain what it should do, this is why I tend to see consoles as good for that ease of use and can runa agme with lack of trouble shooting or newish hardware or specific.

But really what I don't get entirely is this thread, why does this even need to exist, all it does right now is serve as a loudspeaker for ignorance and circle jerking, not many here are willing to dicuss proerly why they like a PC or like a console, it's mostly people claiming and spouting why they like one while at the same time downplaying the other platform, no one should have to downplay one platform to make their favoured one look better, that's not how dicussion values should work.

Yep pc opens the path for premium gaming at the bleeding edge of tech, but to pretend it doesn't come with costs is silly. The money and trouble of pc gaming is a real factor keeping people away, and its just going ot stay that way because its what separates the two platforms. Consoles are for plug and play, people can complain about patches, but in the end its just a gaming appliance supported for a decade unlike pc.

Consoles don't have sales like steam!
