No audio for gaming with HDMI
Hey all,
I finally got my Samsung TV to play audio from my computer. However, audio won't play for games that operate in a new window. Or, would it be games that potentially depend on gamepads? Of my games, Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, and Dark Souls didn't play their audio on the TV. They only will if I hook up separate speakers to my laptop. Of the games that did play audio from the TV (and every other thing on my computer); there is Toribash and Kerbal Space Program, both of which can't work with a gamepad. Any ideas on how to fix this, and does is relate to the graphics card, or whatever it's called, in my laptop?
Also, I feel like I should mention that to get audio to play on my TV, my computer is connected to it with an HDMI cable to the DVI source, and an aux cord between them.

Thanks in advance. I'm a little tech savvy, but sometimes I just don't know.

However, games like dark souls and fallout 4 I have to jury rig with dvi inputs and an aux cable.

mabye but the you shoul of said mabye its a mix of it being 32bit and your OS/Hardware. i still think this is less likely but it could still have somthing to do with older games since hdmi didnt really exist when they came out. i know its near impossible for me to get supreme commader to run sound through hdmi.

In your task bar on the bottom right, where the volume control is. Right click that > select playback devices > set whatever you want to play the sound as default.

Also, plug in the HDMI to both devices and then start the computer up. Let me know if this works as this solved my issue when hooking PC to TV via HDMI.

This is mostly a repeat of what i said but the part about turning you computer off and then restarting it with the hdmi already in may work. ive never tried it but mabye it would fix the issues.

I'm having this same issue, and even though I'm going into the audio settings and setting the TV as the default, it consistently won't play audio in game for assassin's creed 2 and 3, arkham asylum, and God knows what else from my library... The weird part is that it'll play audio through the TV for the NVIDIA intro when the game opens, but won't actually work when the game itself gets going. For the record I'm running win10 on NVIDIA GTX 860M.

Just a genera note, many games wont play sound threw HDMI if they are fullscreen. simply swithching to windowed generally fixes sound for many games (not all). unfortunatly this also means you have to deal with taskbar up etc.

If you have more than one hdmi input on your tv try hdmi 2. it's customary for hdmi 2 to work for a computer connection (IDK why)

I'm only having problems with dark souls 3, and it only started happening after a full day of playing with no problems. I really want to get it fixed.

Press Win + R, type control.exe mmsys.cpl into the run box, click the playback tab, and make sure your TV is set as the default device.

It should definetly work for dark souls 3 as it works for me. take a look at my first posts to figure it out.

I've had the TV set as the default device - somehow there's a split second when games get going where the TV disconnects, and when it reconnects no audio works (even when I disable other devices and the TV is the only one active AND set to default).

Sometimes, the TV just isn't compatible. The Only 100% way to get around this is to have speakers for your machine.

usually the only way to fix that problem is to play in windowed (not fullscreen window but just normal windowed or get a better compatible tv)
