QoS/Port Setup ASUS RT-AC66U
I more or less randomly looked this up while checking my routers settings since my internet has been a little crazy the last 2 weeks.

I've tried to open every port for Steam earlier, but I can't seem to get it working.
I have had no luck in finding anything on web that specifies "how to" on my specific router.

I'm aware over this..
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711
..link with the nessecary information, but I can't make any sense out of it on my router.

This is my current setup, but I think I've done something wrong somewhere or missed something.

Really hoping that someone has some useful information for me so I can get this right once and for all.

I have the RT-AC68U which is very similar and you really shouldn't have to open any ports on it at all just to get Steam working. Those instructions are more for poorer quality routers or for when NAT is disabled. Are you sure it's not the firewall on your computer that's the problem?

My firewall is disabled atm, so no, that can't be the problem.
It's not that I have like any big problems with Steam.
But since I was already messing with it, I looked up the QoS thing to check if that would have somewhat of effect on Steam.

Well, portforward.com is the usual go to site for port forwarding guides and they do have a guide for your particular router. It seems you've missed a few settings.

Thanks! I think this will do the trick!
Had totally forgot to check portforward.com for guides.

OK. So, no big problems but there is still some kind of problem?

Anyway, FWIW, this is what the port forwarding table looks like on my Asus router:

I don't have any problems with Steam or online gaming at all. Same goes for PS3 and PS4 connectivity.

PS. Some ISPs in the UK (like Plusnet) enable QoS at their end and advise end users not to enable it on their routers because it can cause problems and result in lower speeds. It's unusual for ISPs to do this, but I just thought I'd mention it in case yours already has QoS enabled. It might be worth checking with them before enabling it on the router.

Looks just like mine. Haven't had any problems before, but just wanted to open the ports just in case.
Not sure if my ISP have enabled the QoS, but that is something I could easily check.

Well, have fun. I like messing around with mine too. You might have noticed that I'm using the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware[asuswrt.lostrealm.ca]. It enables some interesting power features and optimisations, but I use it for the *stronger wifi.

*All router manufacturers were forced to reduce wifi strength of European models late last year due to new regulations. This custom firmware uses the better wifi driver that Asus were forced to stop using back then.

Always fun to mess around with tech.
And a good way to learn how things work.

Yeah, I saw that! Thought that just was something specific for your router.
I use WIFI just for my phone and tablet, so I don't think it will make much difference.
Or am I wrong?

Oh the wifi strength is only useful if the layout or size of your home means you can't get a strong signal on some devices. I could only get three bars on the 5Ghz frequency range in parts of my home - and that also meant a reduction in transfer speed. With this custom firmware I can get the full five bars so I benefit from the full speed of the router.

ETA: If you only use wifi with phone or tablet though then I'm sure it doesn't really matter. ;)

Well 5Ghz is best used for WiFi Desktops/Laptops if u can help it.
Most phones and tablets don't support the AC 5Ghz. But for those, probably be best to have those stay on B/G/N 2.4Ghz anyways. Allowing Desktops/Laptops and other unique devices u much rather have a better dedicated WiFi for, using the 5Ghz.

That would have worked pretty good at my dads place, since our router is down in the basement xD

That's what I thought. My phone and tablet handles both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, but I don't really notice a difference between 2.4 and 5.

As told over, my phone and tablet handles both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
But I'm only using the 2.4Ghz since I don't notice any difference between the two of them.
But it's good to know in case I'll get visitors with desktops/laptops.

Ok, sorry didn't see part about phone & tablet supporting 5Ghz
Well it more/less comes down to conjestion. If not congested, either would be fine.
But yea for guests, perhaps the kids, family always using phone/tablet on WiFi, let them be on the 2.4Ghz while u reserve the 5Ghz for things u deem more important, as that won't be congested. 2.4Ghz u can often experience drop-outs too, as it is hard to pick a WiFi Channel for the Modem/Router that isn't overlapped with something someone else nearby (like your neighbors) are already using as well.

Luckily for me, I am the only one that lives in this apartment so at this moment it's not that necessary to do. But I will note this down so I can set up my routers for what's necessary.
And for what concerns about the drop-outs, it's most likely that my IPS has issues which they've had for the past 2 weeks:sad_creep:

Just setup a different named SSID for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz

I currently have the same name on them both except "2.0" on the end of the 5Ghz name.
