Cooldown when adding friends

Hello!

When I try to add somebody on Steam it always shows me this error message:

It looks like you've sent too many friend invites. To prevent spam, you'll have to wait before you can invite more friends. Please note that other players can still add you during this time.

I couldn't add anybody for like 10-14 days now nor do I have any pending friend requests. I read some posts about this problem and everybody was talking about the limit 30 requests per 7 days. I didn't add 30 people in 7 days before this cooldown occured first.

Is this still the limit or has it changed? Is there some factor that can put you in the cooldown (for example when your friend requests get declined or cancelling requests)? Can I do anything to get rid of the cooldown, because waiting doesn't seem to help?

I believe each time you send a friend request during the cooldown it resets the cooldown. Wait a couple of days without sending at all.

You are not going to like the answer...

Stop sending requests. Everytime you do, it resets the cooldown.

The cooldown varies from 1 week up to 1 month "from the last time you saw the error message." Key point in quotes. This means if you saw the message today, you have to wait a full month before you can send another. Have them add you instead.

The duration is different for each user and can last 1 week or up to 1 month from the last time you saw the message. Please note, Steam Support is also unable to remove or modify this limit.

We don't have any further information in regards to this limit but if you would like to share your thoughts or suggestions regarding it, we encourage you to share it in the Steam Discussions as this forum is regularly read by the Valve Development team.

The cooldown has many variables for when the account gets this message. No 1 account is the same in this matter. Some will get it after 1 invite, others 30.

The cooldown resetting is another thing support has told users.

The variables are not known because Valve doesn't want people to abuse it.

By the way, I was writing with the Steam Support about this issue and asked them if the cooldown extends or resets when trying to send any friend requests when on cooldown.

This is because you do not actually send any invite when you are on cooldown (obviously), the only thing you see is the message "It looks like you've sent too many friend invites. To prevent spam, you'll have to wait before you can invite more friends. Please note that other players can still add you during this time.".

Message by Steam support:
You may continue to try and send friend invites periodically. However, the duration of the cooldown will extend if invites you have already sent are declined.
So just keep trying to see if the cooldown is still there.
